Suhara-juku is the thirty-ninth station on the Nakasendo, counted from Edo (Tokyo). There are water troughs made by hollowing out logs around the town. Travelers have been quenching their thirst with fresh spring water from these troughs since ancient times.
Atera Valley is well known for the beauty of its crystal-clear water. You can enjoy hiking along the mountain stream from the valley entrance, but be cautious as it might be dangerous due to the narrow roadway.
