FAQ:
Where are you from? Are you Japanese?
– I am Swedish.
For how long have you lived in Japan?
– I came to Japan in 2008.
Why did you move to Japan?
– I was interested in Japan since I was a child, largely thanks to growing up playing a lot of (Japanese) videogames as well as a brief interest in anime during my teenage years. When I finally came here for the first time I felt that it was a really nice and interesting country, and I decided to do what I could to move here permanently.
How did you get a visa to Japan?
– It’s complicated and my case is quite different from most, as I’ve always been self-employed. But basically, as long as you can show the immigration authorities that you have a stable income, there’s usually a way. Personally, I was here on journalist visas until a few years ago when I got married. Now I have a spouse visa.
Do you work in Japan?
– Yes, I’m a photographer. Currently, most of my work is related to tourism and travel in Japan, but I also do portrait photography as well as documentary work. I used to write news stories and articles about Japan as well, mostly for newspapers in Sweden, but for the last 3-4 years, my work has been almost exclusively about photography. Sometimes I appear on TV too.
What camera do you use?
– My live walks are recorded with my phone, a Oneplus 8 Pro or IPhone 12 Pro Max, mounted on a DJI OM4 Gimbal. For my “real work”, I mostly use a Nikon Z7, but I also have a Z6, Fujifilm X-T3, Leica Q and Ricoh GR III that comes with me from time to time.
What advice would you give to someone wanting to move to Japan?
– Study, learn a skill that’s in demand in Japan. There are plenty of available jobs here. Some knowledge of the Japanese language would also help a lot, not just to get you a job, but also so that you can actually enjoy life while living here as well.
How did you learn Japanese?
– I went to language school in Tokyo for one year in 2010-2011. After that, I’ve also taken some online courses and studied on my own.
How many languages do you speak?
– Swedish, English and Japanese reasonably well, and also a bit of German, as I lived there before coming to Japan.
Will you make bicycle videos?
– No. Streaming and interacting with my viewers while riding a bike would be too dangerous.
Can you show your face?
– I prefer to keep a bit of privacy here on YouTube, at least for the time being. I do streams exclusive to my Patreon followers from time to time where I show my face though, so if you are really eager to see what I look like, and if you want to support the channel as well, you should consider joining me there. http://www.patreon.com/tokyoexplorer

Thanks for the stream tonight, I enjoyed it! It's never boring walking with you.
I'm Sorry!! I Apologize, I 've lost the Live. I will watch the video now!! Ciao . Greetings from Italy
I'm not sure you caught it entirely in the stream but yeah sunday (4th of april) I woke up feeling a bit achey all over my body which I thought was sleep related, the next day I had random chills and just a general meh / tired feeling the entire day, on tuesday I was much better and I'd say fully genki on wednesday. I think I might've had the same thing you did, although I'm not even sure what I had really. Extreme hay fever? a Cold? The Flu? 🤷
As always i enjoyed the walk 👍!!! Welcome back TE and mini explorer !!! In my vocabulary there is no word ” boring ” !!!
So wonderful to have you back among the living with us, TE!
So nice to share a walk! Your new '12' images are so clear, gorgeously colorful and nicely
<w i d e> (and the audio is crisp like an Aomori apple also!). Came in late (sorry), just saw that you had 'Ko Explorer' on board 😇 xoxo! All is sunny and sweet once again with the world!
Cheers!!! 😊🥰😻👍👍🐾❤🙏
Been while since last live stream, love it
Hi, It’s morning here, just after you finished your stream, in Atlantic Canada (we’re 12h behind Tokyo). I so very much enjoy the walks, and very much like your chat. A gimbal arrived yesterday thanks to your inspiration. The new camera is very clear, we watch off an iTV on a 55” screen LOL. May I ask which setting you used to film (i.e. PF, F, etc)?
Thank you for showing me the cityscape of Tokyo!
I hope to return to a world where you can go wherever you like!
Thanks for the stream TE, watching the replay now and the video quality is great!
Glad to see you back in harness TE. Hoping that you'll be back to 100% genki in no time
It is good to see you back and that you are in good health. It was a good walk, I really enjoyed it. It was nice that Mini Tokio Explorer accompanied you 🙂
Woohoo new member joining TE
Glad to know you're back and well! It was a nice surprise to find the stream. The image still stutters a bit, but I'm sure you will soon get used to the iPhone and find the best settings.
Funny to read comments from people complaining about the talking. So many channels they can go to. The reason why I love TE streams is that interacting with him and people feels like a walk with friends. Some of us REALLY enjoy that and makes so much difference to us. It’s been helping me to deal with so much isolation during these times as well. If my mom and grandma were still in this world, I’m sure we’d watch this together as a family activity. I love sipping my tea or any drink to these videos and just chill while I interact with TE and others.
how is the little one and glade to see you back with the walk grate.
I can't watch the live stream, because I live in Brazil. But every monday I listen and watch the recorded stream when I'm planning my classes for the weak (I'm a teacher). Thanks for providing me with some company and some beautiful images to lighten my work day. All the best to you and your family. 🙂
TE-san, okaeri! Hisashiburi desu ne! Genki desu ka. I'm glad to see you are feeling better 😊 Very nice walk, the video quality was great, really sharp and clear. Good to see Mini Explorer too, kawaii ne 😊 arigatou gozaimasu 🙏🏼
Thanks again TE for that walk, jag tackar 🙂
Maybe the Zoom iQ7 mic might be useful for you. I am using the last version of that mic and its quite good. Records very nice stereo sound and you can use a little windscreen for that thing as well to shield from wind noise. (WSU-1)
Viele Grüße von der Insel Rügen!
I always miss the streams 🙁 but I really like them when I rewatch them! Keep up the good work 🙂
I like your new phone quite a bit. It will take a bit of time to get used to iOS. But overall I do like the quality of the video (when it was stable) better and the level of colors is more accurate and vibrant in this video.
good to see you back sir, iphones good quality especially for live streaming
awesome live stream great quality video
Wonderful to have you back! Woke up in the middle of the night and you were there. I am so glad you are feeling better. Nice to have ME on board after a long time. I echo our other subs in saying these past months of steaming has filled a huge void from the pandemic.
I believe the iPhone is the superior platform, and I see a remarkable picture quality not seen before. You will get used to it.
Please rest now, get up your full strength. We appreciate you!
Good to see you have recovered and out shooting videos again, God bless.
I like watching your videos because of the interactive conversation during your walk. It helps to widen my horizon also to see what other people are doing at the same time on the other side of the world. It has a humble feeling to me and realizing we are truly living in the same universe and we all going on with our lives.glad you are getting better TE!
finally!!
Very nice walk! 😊
Excellent images, the quality is incredible. I really enjoyed this walking
A little bit of sad that I lost a OnePlus buddy, however, you made a great decision to get a iPhone. The video quality is far better than op8. So happy for your smart choice.
That is typical video that i love! Walking around local neighborhood 🙂 Thank you for making this streaming ^^
