First Gion Matsuri in 2 Years – Kyoto’s BEST Festival Returns



After the longest 2 years of our lives, Gion Matsuri, one of Japan’s Largest and Kyoto’s BEST Summer Festival Has Returned! I Have been looking forward to seeing this again for so long, its hard to believe its really back. This is the Japan that I came to see, and it hasnt been the same since we most of the festival events were cancelled for the last 2 years.

    I cant believe how long its been since Ive seen this Parade of the Yamaboko, even though Japan has been really cautious to open up, the festivals and life of Japan feels like its returning to what it once was, hope to see everyone traveling to Japan soon!     Lots of respect to the participants and observers of the Gion Matsuri, it looked like the weather was a bit on the hot side that day.
    If I were there, I would've been arrested for behaving like it was the Hadaka Matsuri because of the weather.

    Great to see festivals being held. Have to say I'm more a fan of the livelier ones, personally. Can't wait for this year's winter festivals where we strip down to a fundoshi (in January), douse ourselves in ice water, and march up a mountain bearing torches before an all-out brawl for the bag of holy wood chips.
