WATCH NEXT: The truth about moving back home after living abroad https://youtu.be/dXhXwyQ9v8U

These are the surprising life lessons that I STILL FOLLOW from Japan after Years of not living there! I think some things just never go away and Japan has so many philosophies that naturally flow with my sense of peace and simplicity!

As the daughter of a Japanese mom and an American dad, I have a lot of Japanese culture ingrained in me… it was my first language, my first real home and my first time dealing with how Japanese mixes with other cultures (namely American)…

  1. Hi sweet lady,
Thanks for sharing your experience and your perceptions on Japan. Does your son want to visit there?

  2. Thanks for the video! Our twins are 25 and done with college so my wife and I are doing annual vacations and Japan is next on our list. We've done ireland and Spain so far. As an architect I look forward to experiencing what Frank Lloyd Wright did as Japanese architecture and culture greatly influenced him and his work. There was an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm called Irashamasse where Larry David fell in love with the phrase and said it back to rhe restauranteurs, which they dient appreciate. It was pretty funny.

I'm sure once you're back in Japan a lot will come back, once the context becomes familiar again. I hope you and your son make it there soon!

  3. great video, but as an American who’s learning Japanese and learning the culture, i would absolutely love to visit, or live in Japan, but what you said at the end discouraged me. i’m afraid that if i do go live there that i will never feel comfortable and i’ll always feel like an outsider.

don’t get me wrong though good video and it taught me a lot ❤

  4. Your perspective is always so interesting and refreshing. Are you still in the US?

  5. Do you think that the regimentation of Japanese life made it easier to be in the military? I like that you said choreographed when talking about cleaning in front of their houses because I can picture that as a dance with brooms. Thank you for sharing this part of your life.

  6. Awe you should definitely go back and share all the good experiences with your son. And better yet can’t you take a space-A flight?
