This is very helpful and informative, and I can tell your video took a lot of work. I'm planning my second trip to Japan (first time was ten years ago), and several of your videos are saved on my Japan playlist for reference. Your channel is underrated. Thank you so much!
Will a 3-week JR Rail Pass cover these Kansai lines PLUS the rest of the JR lines in the country?
I agree with most everything here, but I do think that the reserved seats actually are a problem. Like if you're using Fukuchiyama as a base for travelling. Just going to Shin-Osaka on the Kounotori, you'll need to make a reservation. If you do a round-trip every day for the five days, you'll have used 10 reservations, so you'd have to pay for the reservations exceeding the six allowed by the pass. Then if you want to go further afield like to Wakayama on the Kuroshio, you'll need more reservations too. I still think the Kansai WIDE Area Pass is a better value than paying for regular tickets, but travellers should factor in the potential extra cost.
SPONSOR THIS MANN!! HE DOES GOOD!!!! KEEP HIM ADORNED IN TRINKETS HE HATH EARNED IT!
Thanks for the detailed explanation, Andrew! I imagine these regional passes (and videos explaining them) will become much more popular after the JR pass price increase in October, so this is super relevant for folks who are planning their trip to Japan 6-12 months down the line. I wonder if it would be helpful to call it out in the video or title? Also, would you consider making a video on the Tokyo wide pass?
Hi, may I ask how do you reserve seats from Kyoto to Amanohashidate? And will I be reserving two seats (return trip) out of the six given?
Secondly from KIX to Shin-osaka is there any train covered by the KANSAI Wide area pass?
Thanks once again.
This is amazing, you helped me alot!
Wow. All the question that I posted all over travel forums answered in one video. Kudos buddy.
Am going to Japan solo next month,
1.how to identify which is JR train on the platform?
2. How to identify which is JR bus on the street?
3. I see that the wide rail pass is just inserted into the machine with no communication or checks, so practically you could just get on any train and not be checked even if non-JR? How do they enforce that only JR train can be taken?
4. Some trips to places to destination like Wakayama need multiple transfers if departing from say, Okayama(which is supposedly part of my itinerary), so the transfer if not to a JR train, there would be a charge, any tips? I usually route with google map and it recommend a path and i usually take it.
This is the path I had to take from Okayama to Koyasan, Wakayama;
Okayama station -> Shin Osaka station (Tokaido Sanyo Shinkansen)
Shin Osaka -> Osaka station (Tokaido sanyo line)
Osaka station -> Shib imamiya (Osaka loop line)
Shin Imamiya -> Hashimoto station (Nankai koya line)
Hashimoto -> Gokurakubashi (Nankai koya line)
Are all these JR line? Thanks for your help bud….
Sorry if the questions seems a little dumb, its my first time to Japan and all the passes and lines seem intimidating
Good explanation👍🏻
DOES THE REGIONAL JR PASS INCLUDED ON THE PRICE INCREASE THIS COMING OCTOBER?
UPDATE: The price will go up to 12,000 yen on October 1st, BUT the seat reservation limit will become UNLIMITED!

Hiii will you be making a video for JR Kansai Hiroshima pass as well? 🙂 would love some tips on this as well since I'm a little confused on how it works thank you for your videos! So informative and helpful!
Is it unlimited ride for Haruka?
Hey Andrew, I have some questions for you:
1) What are all the ways to book a reserved seat on the Kuroshio Limited Express (I'm going from Shin-Osaka to Kainan) after I have exchanged my Klook ticket for the Kansai Wide Area Pass at Kansai Airport?
2) What should I do when I am trying to go through the gantries? Do I insert the Kansai Wide Area Ticket, just as I do for other regular JR trains when taking the Kuroshio Limited Express?
3) If I am sending luggage from my hotel in central Osaka to Kansai Airport and my flight leaves on Sunday night, does the weekend affect the usual 2-day delivery time?
Sadly seems the pass isn’t available to Japanese nationals. So my Japanese wife can’t get a pass on our planned trip back 😢
Hello, 🥀🌹🌷🌻🌻🦩🦩🦋🦋🌺🌺May I share an Old Testament Verse with you from Daniel 7:14 "And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a Kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should SERVE Him; his dominion is an Everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom shall not pass away, and His Kingdom that which shall not be destroyed." Also, can I share Isaiah 53:5 " But HE was WOUNDED For our TRANSGRESSIONS, he was BRUISED for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon Him, and with His STRIPES we are HEALED."
God the Father loves you so much that He sent Holy Sinless Jesus (His Holy Son) to earth to be born of a virgin. Then, to grow up and die on a cross for our sins. He was in the tomb for 3 days, then Father God raised Holy and Sinless Jesus Christ (Y'shua) to Life! He appeared to people and went back to Heaven. We must receive Sinless Jesus sincerely to be God's child(John 1:12).After we get saved by grace through faith in Christ, if we truly love the Lord Jesus Christ, then we will obey Jesus(John 14:15). Mark 1:15 "And saying, the time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: Repent ye, and believe the gospel." Jesus said in John 14:15 "If you love Me, keep My commandments. "There's a real hell. It says in Revelation 21:8 "But for the cowardly, & unbelieving, and abominable, and murderers, & immoral persons sorcerers & idolaters & all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire & brimstone…" Please sincerely receive Holy Jesus and put your true faith and trust in Him today and please repent. Will you have a Real encounter with Holy Lord Jesus (Y'shua is His Hebrew Name) and stay in a Genuine relationship with Him daily please
If i already bought the JR pass, do i still need to get this?
Do you know if the Kansai pass covers the kintetsu line?
I will be based out of Kyoto for 2 weeks, then a week in the Hakone and Takamatsu, and a final week in Tokyo. I’m totally at a loss as to whether to purchase a 3 week JR pass or some other combination of passes. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!
Hi! May I know if the pass can be used on the Kintetsu Railway?
Such a great video, very informative!
I have an upcoming trip starting on Sunday.
My trip is 12 days but for the first 5 days I might go for this pass.
The first night I will stay in Wakayama and then afterwards be based in Osaka.
I would like to go to many locations with some long trips as I have been to Japan before and don't want to spend my whole trip in only in Osaka, Nara, Kyoto.
If I am mostly based in Osaka is this worth it for 5 days?
Any recommendations on where to go with this pass?
Thanks a lot!
Thank you for this! I'm planning to visit Amanohashidate in the future and other more, but I'm getting confused about the plethora of passes available for Kansai.
