It’s a mountain resort that offers an enjoyable stay throughout the year. In spring, you can delight in hiking to see skunk cabbage, while in summer, the mountains beckon for climbing adventures and stargazing. Fall enchants with its vivid foliage, while winter offers the exhilaration of skiing on powdery snow.

There are a lot of ponds in the area because of the ancient volcanic activity of Mt. Norikura. Maimeno pond is one of the most popular photo spots, known for its reflection of Mt. Norikura.

Do you want to climb Mt. Norikura?
You need to take a bus because the Echo Line, which leads to Tatamidaira bus terminal, does not permit private vehicle access. After about 90 minutes of climbing from Tatamidaira, you’ll reach Kengamine, at 3,026 meters (9928 ft.) the highest peak on the mountain. With a bit of luck, you might see grouse along the trail.
