Nahargarh Fort situated in the Aravalli Mountain range of Jaipur is one such magnificent fort. Built by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II of Jaipur in 1734, the fort was initially named Sudarshangarh, and was later renamed as Nahargarh. With its rich past and grand architecture, Nahargarh Fort attracts tourists from every corner of the world.

One of the major attractions of Nahargarh Fort is Mahavendra Bhawan. The structure is painted in yellow and has two storeys. The Palace houses similar suits for each queens of Sawai Madho Singh. All suites are connected to each other by corridors and have a bedroom, kitchen and other sections. The royal women’s quarters were set up in such a way that the Maharaja could visit any of the queen’s rooms without the knowledge of the other queens.

A haunting story about the Nahargarh Fort is that the spirit of Rathore Prince Nahar Singh Bhomia used to roam around the palace and obstruct the construction work. Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh came to know that the land in which he had planned to build the fort belonged to Prince Nahar Singh Bhomia of Rathore and the restless soul was not allowing the construction work to take place. Based on the advice of the priests, Sawai Jai Singh decided to build a temple dedicated to the prince. Also, the king named the fort after the prince to honour him. Later the construction work went on without any interruption.

Nahargarh has been featured in several Bollywood movies such as Shuddh Desi Romance and Rang De Basanti.
