Cape Soya, Hokkaido – the northernmost freely-accessible point of Japan
🚎 Getting there: 4 buses a day from Wakkanai; the ride there takes around on hour
💰 Costs: ¥2560 for a return bus trip; exploring the area itself is free
⏱️ How long to spend there: If you want to walk around & see it all you need at least 2 hours.
📸 The Most Popular Photo Spot: The Cape Soya Monument is very popular, so you might have to wait a few minutes to take a photo. However, the line is never too long and people are happy to take a photo or two of you if you are on your own.
🗾 Highlights: Spot Russia in the distance, the Cape Soya Monument, the watchtower, the lighthouse (hidden by scaffolding during my visit)
🛍️ Amenities: There is everything from souvenir shops, to restaurants and laundry rooms on site.
