This is the incredible but little known story of Ikuo Takada, a 66-year old pet store owner from Osaka, Japan who since 1988 has traveled the length and breadth of Japan with over 100 iguanas spanning 20 different species.

His passion for these unusual reptiles knows no bounds, and he has dedicated decades of his life advocating for iguanas as pets and raising awareness of their often misunderstood nature.

Ikuo crisscrosses Japan on trains, buses, and ferries with up to 50 iguanas at a time, showcasing them to students, kindergarteners and curious locals at schools, community centers and festivals.

Despite some initial apprehension due to unfamiliarity, Ikuo’s charming personality and gentle handling of his iguanas has won over many hearts and minds across the country.

His mission is teach people not to fear these fascinating creatures and show the joy they have brought to his own life.

Along Ikuo’s incredible journey we experience Japan like never before, from the crowded streets of Tokyo to remote villages in Okinawa, as we follow this unconventional pet owner on his lifelong mission to share his passion for animals many consider bizarre or unpleasant.

Ikuo’s story reminds us that true love knows no boundaries, and when shared with patience, kindness and humor even the strangest passions can bring people together.
