A hyper is anything over 200 ft or 200 ft drop
I’m confused by the term “shuttle coaster”.
Cedar point coined the terms hyper, giga and strata to define coasters of 200ft,300ft and 400 ft respectively as a marketing gimmick for each individual ride at the time of its debut.
Moonsault should've been kept and magnum should've been scrapped

0:30 My definition of a hyper coaster is any full circuit rollercoaster that stands (or has a drop of) at least 200ft, but below 300ft, including Dive Coasters, Wing Coasters, Inverted Coasters or other types of rollercoasters that have inversions. However, I don't consider rides like Wicked Twister to be Hyper Coasters because they are not full circuit rollercoasters.
OR we can all move on and just like ride the rides? Isn't that the fun part?
Yeah, I’m going to have to respectfully disagree with you here. Personally, I think that shuttle coasters still count as hypers/gigas/stratas because the structure is still at or over the mark that puts it into that category. If we don’t count shuttle coasters, I feel like they are in a gray area and not getting the credit they deserve. Interesting to hear your take though!
It's an old video, but what I'd say is that a hyper is any full circuit coaster which is either 200 ft tall (with a change in elevation of at least that), or has a drop of 200 ft. Dive coasters count, shuttle coasters don't. Makes it easy.
Of course, dive coasters should still be called dive coasters, and they dont tend to compare well to traditional hypers. But they still count imo.
Wait when did companies come up with these other rules?
I get the complete circuit necessity, so Moonsault or Twister don't count (because not everyone goes the same height), but Valravn is totally a hyper coaster. Just also a dive coaster.
200ft (60m) or more, continuous circuit. That's a hyper coaster, shuttle coasters are excluded because they don't always end up going the same height. The track might be 205ft, but the train stops at 180ft.
Here's my question: is Stealth a hyper or not?
If you count Moondault Scramble as a hypercoaster then you have to count Superman Escape from Krypton as a Stratacoaster.
At least 200ft tall and doesn’t go upside down
The drop must exceed 200 feet but not exceed the 300. It must be full circuit.
Any coaster with a DROP (rather than height) of in between 200' and 300' to me qualifies as a hyper coaster, (which leave Max XL-200 OUT as it only has a 194' drop.)
I personally don't count "scaled up models" as hyper coasters. What I mean is when a model (dive coaster, impulse, etc) has some coasters over 200 feet, like valravn or wicked twister. I might count rmc hybrids as hypers because they focus on airtime despite having inversions. There are also multiple hypers with inversions that aren't scaled up models, like steel curtain, karnan, flash
how is steel vengeance but valravn isn’t. They both are the 205 feet and both have inversions. A HYPER IS A COASTER OVER 200 FEET OR DROP OF 200 FEET AND HAS TO BE A FULL CIRCUT.
I don’t care if it has inversions it’s a hyper
My definition is
Magnum hyper- a actual hyper
Steel vengeance hyper- just making things up
Sorry People but valravn isn't a hyper coaster a hyper coaster must be a full circuit no inversion coaster and it has to reach 200 feet so goliath at laronde isn't a hyper it's a mega coaster a mega coaster is a full circuit non inverted coaster in between 100 and 200 feet
Steel eal is a mega coaster not a hyper coaster do a giga coaster rant
What makes a Hyper Coaster? Marketability.
I consider Steel Eel a hyper coaster because it feels like it
I know this isn't true, but I call coasters in the style of hypers that don't reach 200 ft anywhere mega coasters
chance rides hyper gtx lighting run is a hyper coaster its in the name.
The people saying Orion is a Hyper Coaster really bothers me! B&M Giga’s have a very unique track style while B&M Hypers also have a unique track style
A hyper coaster must have a drop that is more than 200 feet but less than 300 feet.
I'll call it a hyper coaster if the park / manufacturer call it one, because it's a totally made up metric for marketing purposes and it's silly to try and apply arbitrary rules to it. If IKEA starts calling my bedroom set "Hÿpercøaster", well then folks, I'm sleeping in a hyper coaster every night…
For me a hyper is everything that is over 200 feet tall and at least 1k feet long and goes a full circuit. A Traditional Rollercoaster, not some Short Dive machines with weird trains or a boomerang
I consider sheikra and griffon a hyper coaster because the are both between 200-299 feet and are a full circuit ride
