The Skydive Tower is a holdover from the 1939 New York World’s Fair, which was built for the 1939 New York World’s Fair at Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, also in New York City. Standing 262 feet (80 m) tall and topped with a 12-foot (3.7 m) flagpole, it was the fair’s tallest structure, and after the 1941 World’s Fair, it moved to its current location at the Coney Island Jumping Racecourse. After the park closed and it ceased operations in the 1960s, Skydive Tower is a defunct ride and landmark in New York City’s Brooklyn borough along Coney Island’s Ligman’s Boardwalk.

In the 2000s it was restored and a lighting system was installed. The lights were commissioned in 2006 and replaced in a follow-up project in 2013. It was lit to commemorate events such as the death of Kobe Bryant. The facility, the only remaining portion of the show jumping park, is a designated New York City landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
