Time lapse video of Sakurajima, one of the most active volcanos in Japan venting a cloud of ash. Video was taken from the observation point on the island after taking the ferry across from Kagoshima.
Amazingly enough despite the serious risk of eruptions and lava flows there are a considerable amount of people living on the island of Sakurajima and nearly 600,000 people living just a few miles away (literally 1.5 miles between Kagoshima and Sakurajima).
Sakurajima used to be an island, but with eruptions and lava flows it actually because a peninsula.
Kagoshima was one of the ports of call while cruising on the Diamond Princess from Yokohama.
