In this Indonesia Travel Vlog, we finally get to see the amazing Mount Bromo!!! Although we’ve heard it’s possible to see Mount Bromo on your own, the most popular (and easy) way is to sign up for a Mount Bromo Tour. There are many tours available from both Surabaya and Malang, but we chose to do a group tour from Malang. Our tour started by picking us up at our hotel in Malang at 12:30am…..yes, right after midnight!! We were picked up in one of the cool ‘jeeps’ that are the only cars allowed to enter Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (you can no longer drive your own car into the national park). It was a bumpy 3 hour drive from our hotel to the sunrise viewpoint at Mount Pananjakan. We arrived about an hour before sunrise and it was COLD!!! We were able to rent coats on the mountain and get some hot tea at one of the many coffee shop stalls while we waited. We then hiked in the dark up to the top of Pananjakan to wait for the sun to rise. Even though we were still very cold, the sunrise was amazing!!! And we finally got to see a sea of clouds! There were amazing views of Mount Bromo along with some other volcanoes and mountains. We were surprised at how many people were at the Bromo sunrise viewpoint! After sunrise, we returned our coats, got more tea, and got back in our jeep to head to the next spot. Our tour took us to Dinosaur Valley which is the most amazing photo spot on the Mount Bromo Tour! We were able to climb on top of the Jeep to take pictures with the volcanoes in the background. We also got some nice drone shots here. After we left Dinosaur Valley, it was time to climb Mount Bromo! When we arrived there were many men on horses which you could pay to take you up Mount Bromo. We decided just to walk, however a lot of people were on horses too. First you had to walk for a while and then go up a lot of stairs to the actual crater of Mount Bromo. We were AMAZED when we saw the crater! Mount Bromo is huge and you can hear how powerful it is as the steam comes out of the crater. Right at the top of the stairs there is a fence, but if you walk farther along the edge of Mount Bromo, there is no fence at all – just two steep drops on either side! It was actually a little scary!! While we wanted to fly our drone over Mount Bromo, our driver explained that it is a sacred place so it’s disrespectful to fly drones over the crater so we did not do that (although we saw some people flying there). Once we left the crater we were SO exhausted from being up all night, but we still had a couple more places to stop on the tour. We went to a black sand area where there was a sacred rock that looked like a lion. After that we went to the Teletubbies Hill which is a gorgeous yellow/green hilly area that looks like the TV show the Teletubbies. Lastly we stopped by the Rainbow Hill Waterfall. It was such an amazing day!
