Japan’s last remote frontier is East Hokkaido is where less than 0.1% of tourists will ever visit. It’s between Kushiro and Nemuro north to Rausu and Shiretoko National Park. Basically zero international tourists come – but we did! So – what’s out here? Wild animals, amazing scenery, onsen hot springs, sea and mountains, friendly people who have never seen foreign tourists before! Oh, and the food is amazing!

With a Japanese RV Camper – the Robinson 106 – we set out for the great unknown. Join @PetervonGommJAPAN and I on a road trip adventure sho winging off Hokkaido’s most spectacular places you’ll want to visit!
Where’d we stop?
Obihiro – Nemuro – Cape Nosappu, Japan’s Easternmost Point – Rausu – Shiretoko National Park – Teshikaga – Lake Mashu & Lake Akan – Ainu Kotan – Ashoro – Aoike Blue Pond, Biei – Furano Lavender – Yubari Melon Town and back to New Chitose Airport for the flight back to Tokyo.

  3. Hi John, nice to see you guys are travelling together, really enjoyed. When you mentioned momo, that took back me to Nepal and my old memory. Sorry to correct but when you say Momo you don't need to add dumpling, in Nepal, mainly among Tibetan and Sherpas, we call momo or dumpling. That now is also the common name in Nepal. I hope to take my family to that route (Hokkaido) for tour one day in future.

  4. i was shocked when you had to full up the fuel tank in nemuro… 50 bucks for basically 50 liters of fuel???? Brother… double that and you get the gas prices in Germany…

  5. Thank you for showing us Hokkaido
Before that video I thought Hokkaido was just that boring part of Japan with nothing exciting😬 But you showed us the complete opposite
Now I even want to do a Motorcycel and Camper tour at Hokkaido myself

  11. It's been a long while since I've watched any of your videos, John. Thought that I'd start here. Really enjoyed this video. Now onward to the videos that I've missed and go back to some that I really enjoy watching, like any that have to do with the Sapporo Snow Festival.

  15. You never said how they whipped you for bringing in the motorcycle in late and damaged

  16. "Russian occupied territories", also known as Russia mate, the only territory occupied in Japan is called Okinawa!

  17. You can understand why Tourists don't get there, having to read detour signs in Japanese? Don't think Google Earth gets updated with last minute road closing notices.
John, how did you get the wife to agree with your trip leaving her and the kid alone for so long?
