Tanabata Festival is a Japanese traditional celebration and celebrated every year on July 7 in Japan to recall a story of a lover in the heaven Weaver Princess and Cowboy. According to Tanabata’s story, the two lovers were separated by the Amanogawa and allowed to meet once per year on July 7. At that time, Japanese people write their wishes on the wishing paper and hang it on the bamboo tree to have their wishes granted. Japanese people usually wish to be the same as the two lovers since they are very hardworking and skillful people in doing their tasks.

This year, the Embassy of Japan in Cambodia, Cambodia-Japan Cooperation Center (CJCC) and The Japan Foundation, Phnom Penh Liaison Office will conduct an event called “Tanabata Festival 2023” from 24-25 July at CJCC for the purpose of promoting further cultural exchanges between the two nations.
