  1. Chinese people are fond of doing this “black face” and worse is they’re so ignorant about it.

  2. Blacks and Chinese have been sharing and exchaning culture for ages. Ofcourse its not racist.
If it is then Wesley Snipes, Denzel Washington, Will Smith, Michael Jai White, Wu Tang Clan etc etc etc
Are racist for using chinese culture constantly for their successes…
    Pointless discussion.

  3. I would give her a pass since she's not from the USA. She doesn't know the context, or the significance. A friend of mine is from Europe. One day we were explaining to her about blacks in the USA and the words "fried chicken and watermelon" It's about context. We also were explaining about the use of the words…"hey boy". If your not from America, you don't know the context. If this knew the significance of it, maybe she would not have done it.

  4. Yet no one drags Robert Downey Jr for his blackface appearance in Tropic Thunder, regardless if it was "in character"

  5. Feels like America always wants people to take into account its historical cultural idiosyncrasies, but never does it for any other cultures

  6. Black face shouldn’t be used if you’ve had any ties to slavery or doing anything comedy related but if trans can use makeup art to look like men or women that’s fine so i don’t see anything wrong with showing homage to someone that passed away and being respectful

  7. Americans are just sensitive bitches! I’m black but not American, and this is not offensive at all

  8. The next video should be about controversy on the children book called Love in the Library which was about a Japanese American author’s Grandparents who married during the Japanese incarceration camps.

  9. This issue is blown out of proportion and only a handful of people are outraged. Wanna know why? The incumbent prime minister of Canada who is Caucasian had yearbook photos of himself donned in blackface that were leaked prior to an election and he still won. And the intent was also malicious where he was making a mockery of blacks, unlike the artist being discussed here.

  10. ok ppl that are offended need to stfu & learn about the history of blackface. Blackface done for comedy is offensive which was the whole purpose of Americans doing blackface.

This girl did a makeup to show admiration for a great player. That's a tribute.

  11. Cultures with a history of keeping people as slaves and trading them like cattle should not be imposing their guilt and sensibility on everyone else.
    This lady has mad skills.

  12. Who the hell are you as Asians, or non blk ppl, to tell blk ppl what they can & can't be offended by. How dare you! This is racist… And you making excuses for it shows the bias and ignorance that your community exhibits. Sick!

  13. There will always be racism. Human nature to be assholes. Love thyself is the best way to combat hate.

  14. This is how I look at it, the entire notion of "Black face" is: a White person puts on black face make-up to mock Black people and the reason why this is offensive is that there is a power dynamic between White people and people who are Black. Meanwhile in America, there is no power dynamic between Asians and Black. No Asian American ever owned a Black slave. But plenty of White people have.

  15. This wasn’t blackface at all for me. I’m so tired of people abusing terms or idiots thinking they can speak on something they are obviously clueless about.

  16. Think of it this way. Imagine an painter creating their masterpiece on a canvas. She's the artist and her head or face is the canvas. If she wanted to make fun of Kobe Bryant, it would've been very evident. This is just a way of honoring him. People have to remember intent.

  17. Blackface is a racist act that was performed to mock Black Americans in the US. Blackface is US history. Stop projecting on to the rest of the world and acting like the US is world history. The world does not revovle around you.

There's a group of Miao people in China, in which one of their traditions was painting their faces black as wedding custom. Americans started calling this blackface and racist. This artist is not doing blackface and is not mocking balck people. She is showing off her makeup skills and paying homage to Kobe.

  18. I've seen her do this awhile ago & since she emulates all types of celebrities & she is pretty much entirely divorced from the West's legacy of blackface I've decided on a live & let live policy

  19. Blacks cry racism on everything, why so sensetive? No father in the house to tell you to move on in life? Blacks do whiteface; Martin Lawrence portrayal of Bob from Marketing.

  20. She did this so long ago, her art is amazing. Didn't they just make the little mermaid black, isn't that blackface

  21. This is different in the sense that she is not doing this as a costume or "playing a character for a role… she is a makeup artist who makes videos of how she can transform herself to another person with the power of makeup. She's done this with Kristan Stewart, Cate Blanchett, Avril Lavigne and whoever else.

  22. Did you guys really said "nobody really wants to dress as Asians"? May I remind you of the white E-girls streaming on Twitch with the Asian aesthetics, so they can rank up views. Maybe they're not actually dressing up as Asian celebrities but they're profiting from the Asian aesthetics.

  23. Black face was when they put charcoal or black makeup on their faces hence why it was called black face because it was literally black. Mocking africans for being dark.

This is not black face, this is honouring an individual

  24. They're eventually going to ruin the terms "imitation", "disguise" etc. Cause there are shows out there where contestants are made up to look like famous artists

  25. I bet most that are complaining are white people and a few black people.
