Do you know what to Pack for Japan?: https://youtu.be/OJg_N4GCzM4
🇯🇵 Impressive
That was a cool video, Nathan! Great job! 🇯🇵
This video would have been great to have been seen before my first visit. I'd still have to say Japan is amazing but I'll meet you in the middle with it's Amazingly and Surprisingly Different. 🎌. I couldn't find the Japanese Flag and who doesn't watch a Ninja Monkey till the end. That can't be a thing.
here in norway dinner is ready 4 pm to 5 pm. we find it shoocking that alot of people serve dinner at 7 pm
Excellent as always, Nathan!
To add on item #69- taxis also have automatic doors so you shouldn’t open or close then yourself!

🇯🇵
When I was out there 2 months ago. Conveint store everywhere as well as vending machines and I had 2000 yen notes with me and used them all up just to name a few and I loved it
I'm surprised at how many things I didn't know. A few are how early the sun rises and sets, the jazz music thing, being able to turn the seats on trains, etc, etc. For sight seeing I need to find out more about those rope ways and cable cars. Great video.
Ta add to #46, many ryukons will NOT let you stay in them if you have a tattoo and will turn you away even if you booked in advance. So call or email before you book to make sure they allow tattoos, so you don't end up sleeping in a park.
I miss the trains chimes 🇯🇵
This video is so spot on complete and informative for people who are going to visit Japan for the first time. Great video Nathan! I am adding the ninjamonkey instead of the Japanese flag. Couldn't find it in the emotes.
🇯🇵 Another utterly brilliant video! Makes me want to return to Japan so much!! Thank you 🙏 Nathan 👍
Great Content! 🔰🔰🔰
The 5pm chime did back when I was in Osaka last Jan. Other things that shocked or awed me while there was the NHK sign-off while I was at a hotel. And that anime aired at like 2-3am lol.
I have read, that you should not use a strong perfume or deodorant, because it is considered rude to overwhelm others with the scent. So deodoerants with no scent should be used. Is this true?
Really great list, dude! 🥷🐒
Another great video ❤
Last month I made a 35 minute sound recording of the ambient noise of the Osaka train station as I waited for the 12:00 express train to Kinosaki. It does bring back the memories.
I had the opposite culture shock for dinner went i l went to Spain, how do you eat dinner so late lol
🇯🇵 hey Nathan I tried to scan the QR code for the meet up but not sure how it works. I send me to discord sever. I made an account but not sure where to go from there. Thanks for the helpful videos.
🇯🇵
🇯🇵 Hey Ninja great video format , I learnt a thing or two, happy holiday , now I can say to you I'm jealous 😅
🇯🇵

A great list of things to be aware of. Definately a handful that I didn't really think about but are true.
I'm surprised you mentioned the crows/ravens – they are huge, and can be kind of aggressive. I feel save around them, but somewhere in the back of my mind I have an image when I walk too close to them that they could go for my eyes at any moment… Many of these things had been unusual/interesting to me over the course of the last year, but I don't think any of them surprised me upon this viewing.
What has surprised me the most about Japan is how often I've had umbrellas stolen. I used to buy nice big 1100 yen umbrellas, but I can't keep one for more than a month without it being stolen. So, as a consequence, I now carry a Daiso umbrella and no one steals it because no one wants it.
The thing that surprised me about vending machines is: Except for in big cities (BIG cities), I rarely see food/snack vending machines. It's all drinks, and very occasionally ice cream, and the drinks are NEVER alcoholic except for in hotels. I hear this is a change within the past 5 or so years, and uh, I get it. Probably good for society in general, but less fun for me… boo-hoo, I know, just go to the konbini, but I found the concept interesting. Even in Tokyo, I've never seen a vending machine with alcoholic beverages in a public place (and I've seen videos with them, so they definitely used to exist, but I got here in 2022). No snacks/food though, that surprised me. Makes sense – that stuff expires/goes off. It's incredible how this country does maintain the super incredible amount of ANY kind of vending machines at the level they do, even in rural and semi-rural areas. Though in my year here, I've seen a number of vending machines being taken away, so I think that is noticeably diminishing, probably because it's insane, and sensible measures are being enacted to make it less so, I think. Less fun, but makes more sense. (Two of the closest vending machines from my apartment were removed in the last year, and I didn't know this until the mornings I walked to where they were, expecting to get coffee… which, I didn't get coffee, so that's never fun.)
The sun rises and sets early – that DID surprise me, but also that's not why they call it that (it's called that because it's east of China, basically).
Is water being free different? In US water is always free. I think I remember now that you have to pay for water in Europe which was why I often got a beer or glass of wine 😂
