In this UK family travel vlog, we head out on our first trip as first time parents with our newborn baby who is only 4 weeks old! We decided to hire a canal boat for our first family trip, thinking it would be a relaxing and fun few days. It turned out to be much harder than we’d bargained for! This was our first time on a narrowboat and we had no idea what we were doing! As it turns out, juggling steering the boat, managing mooring, getting through the locks and swing bridges was all quite tricky when also filming and caring for a newborn!

⭐ About Travel Beans:
Hello and welcome to our channel! We are Alex & Emma, a British couple who have been exploring the world together for over 10 years – from backpacking to vanlife:
2012/13: We both embarked on our own solo backpacking trips through Southeast Asia, where we would eventually meet at a hostel in the mountains of Thailand and begin traveling together. After a year and a half of backpacking around Southeast Asia & Australia, we returned home and to the corporate world!
2015: Travel Beans was born and we filmed our first videos on a road trip around Europe with friends! This was our biggest trip yet.. and you can go back and watch the entire adventure because we filmed ALL of it! This trip took us through Russia, Mongolia & China, on the longest railway journey in the world. Followed by highlights such as staying on a local island in the Maldives for a month, going on safari in Sri Lanka, couchsurfing & hitchhiking in Korea, seeing the snow monkeys in Japan, island hopping in the Philippines, trekking 60km through the centre of Myanmar, exploring the Indian Himalayas, and checking out some of the incredible US National Parks.
2016: Despite an unbelievably memorable year and a half of travels, which we were incredibly grateful to have had the privilege to experience.. we found ourselves in New York City, battling depression. At this point, we decided to go home and confront this problem head-on.
2017: After 6 tough months at home we decided to go away again, but this time with a goal in mind.. to turn travel into a lifestyle. We left the UK with just £500 in our bank account and a dream to make a continuous travel lifestyle happen! We both got online English teaching jobs to be able to fund our travels and to keep creating videos. We can’t quite believe that our younger selves decided to take this plunge but we are so grateful they did as we are still on this journey today!
What now?
Over the years, we’ve discovered that we LOVE road trips and even decided to renovate our very own little VWT4 van into a campervan to be able to enjoy vanlife and spend more time on the road. We are now the proud owners of 2 awesome little campers – one based in the UK and one that we keep in the USA. You’ll often find us using one of these vans to explore Europe and North America. If you enjoy this kind of content we’d recommend checking out our Italy Road Trip series, USA vanlife series and our Japan in a Tiny Van series as well as our UK vanlife content.
Our time spent overcoming depression has influenced our outlook on life dramatically! We are now traveling the world in search of what makes us happy. We love sharing the highs and lows of our trips through our videos and hope to spread a little positivity and light to all of the beautiful people who take the time to tune in and watch each week!

Little bean is sooo adorable. Enjoyed your family video.
Wow you guys are brave! Noah is SOOOO cute, I loved this video! Thanks so much for sharing and take as much time as you need ❤
Wait until you travel by plane altogether the first time and then you will know wgat stress is lol. Been there, seen it, done it. Tip- try and fly when baby is due his afterwards nap
Great to see/hear you guys again. In 05 my wife & I came and visited oir friends Pam & Trev. They took us for a few nites on their cannel boat. It's a shorter boat than yours but they've been fixing it up. We had a great time going on the boat & through the locks. We stopped at some of the taverns along the way for meals. AL
I can't wait to see all the adventures you will have with Noah!
You gotta love Emma's spirit and willingness to just do it. Beans rule.
Love that you proverbially got back on the horse, well on the canal boat and traveled with Noah. Love that you decided to travel again. You are both amazing.
Brings it all back! I loved our two week holiday on the broads (no locks), with our three month old daughter, 34 years ago. But she learned to crawl when we were moored up at Norwich. We put her little carry cot mattress half on our bed and half jutting out onto a shelf built into the side of the boat. She went down for a nap and then… she was gone! I was convinced she'd been abducted, but as I stood there, reeling with the horror, our duvet wriggled. And there she was – she had crawled backwards under it and was now in the middle of our bed.
Honestly, it was brilliant with a tiny baby because we didn't ever have to pack up all the baby gear to go out.
Canal boat life is so chilled 😎 We’ve had a camper van for many years but nothing beats a week or so bobbing along the canals of the UK! Everyone is so friendly and forgiving of newbies that it makes for an amazing experience. If you’ve never tried it I can recommend it without hesitation. Good to see you guys back and here’s to many happy years of Beans out travelling 👍
definitely need to look into the canal rving
Hi guy's. Apparently a lot of water has flowed under the bridge since I last saw you. Congratulations on the baby. WOW. Missed following you . Due to illness and getting screwed by ATT. Just found you by chance because of the narrow boat. So thanks for taking the trip. Resubscribe hopefully this carrier will be better. Nice to catch you three again.
Watching this as full time narrowboaters was so enjoyable to see you figuring it all out! 😊
The learning curve is massive and you genuinely did so well! 😊
So glad you enjoyed it though, even with all the hard work haha!
Loved the video!
I loved this video. I walk along an old canal, and this video brought it to what it was like in the past. I would definitely do this. Granted, I had someone with canal experience.
Why? 😲
Glad you had a good time, take a break get some much needed rest . There are so many more adventures awaiting for you beautiful family. Thanks for sharing this wonderful time with us. ❤
Still getting used to seeing the Travel Beans with a baby Bean. Wonderful new world for you.
Beans !! Oh my ! Love it
Rule of thumb: let Emma drive.
Loved this, it was super cool to watch! I love boats!
It never occurred to me that you could rent a canal boat. New bucket list item. Having a newborn is tough, but you’ll thank yourself for making the effort to learn how to travel with a baby instead of letting it hold you back.
Dollars now is it?
Beautiful, I want to do that.
Congratulations on the arrival of Noah. Beautiful baby, beautiful family. Love watching you guys.
Idk if you plan on doing another canal trip anytime soon, but the Llangollen aqueduct is one for the bucket listers out there. Especially since it’s a world heritage site 😊
Wow, you two are definitely brave. Just handling that huge boat in the canal would be hard but doing it with your newborn must have been exhausting. Noah is a cutie!
Wow, you are amazing. After all you went through and your up fir an adventure already. Took me almost a year to recover after my daughter was born lol x
Is it me or can anyone else see this turned into a game like sonic or something 🤣😍
When you are going through hell, keep on going. Never never never give up.

Aw well done…the saying 'Face the fear and do it anyway' is so inspiring… regardless of what it is that terrifies you, it's only the thought of what could go wrong when in fact very seldom it does… I drove 2.5 hours (not a great distance to most) to and from The Lake District this week, I'm usually ok with driving… the motorways don't phase me, even with the massive lorries that try and squeeze you into the next lane, but those country lanes in the Lakes are like Slalom runs, up n down and round hairpin bends and usullly someone who knows the roads like the back of their hands is up your backside., pushing you on… never been so glad to get onto the M6. Seriously great work Travel Beans… where there many midgies around the water?
Seriously
The baby is so young .
Enjoy but don't let him feel your exhaustion .
Mummy and baby need to rest
Well done Travel beans
You two are delightful! I am new to your channel & sooo enjoying. I've giggled away all the way through. You know new parenthood is stressful anyway, delightful that you are finding a way to keep having fun amongst it all – never ever let that go!
Congratulation to your newborn Noah ❤❤❤
Making money with babies. This is so ugly these days. Sorry, but how can you do that? Why people must know about that? I dont get it. So sad for the child.
