Since the beauty of Tasmania changed my husband, Eric, into a trail builder, I had to go on an adventure alone. The Tasmanian Trail spans 480 kilometres from the north to the south of the island. I took my heavy enduro bike and the only helmet I have, which is a fullface, and I was ready for an adventure! I came across so many challenges during the 10-day bikepacking trip. Could I complete one of the most challenging trails in Australia?

  3. I would love to do this if only there weren’t the snakes and spiders that can kill you. Looks so beautiful. Also admire your dedication because not only did you do that trail you also had to take extra trips to set up your cameras to film it.

  4. I just was listening to you on this video as I was driving about town. I was not watching it, instead, keeping my eyes on the road. But, just listening to you was very entertaining!
Listening to a Japanese speaker out gravel biking in Tasmania is great!

I am a former host father to29 Japanese exchange student over the years. And, just listening to you, reminded me of them! Although, your grasp of the English language is way better! Keep up the great videos, I will be Watching more of the ones you’ve already posted.

  7. You made it look easy to do all that while getting the good film footage and narrating it all in real time.

  8. This is some type II fun! It's so awesome you did that! I'm a horseback rider and the steepness of the trails looks doable. It's hard to tell from the camera exactly how steep they are but from what I could tell, a fit trail horse and rider could do them (we do get off and walk the horse up sometimes, though there are safety considerations for both walking the horse up or riding the horse up). Competitive extreme trail riding and endurance races can both include some pretty sketchy climbs (and descents). I'm in the Pacific Northwest too, so we definitely have some steep trails. The rocks would be of more concern to me than the steepness, personally, because of the risk of a rock rolling and the horse going down, or coming up lame. A good trail horse is sure-footed and careful. I've definitely ridden steep, rocky trails like this on a good horse. (People have done the entire Pacific Crest Trail on horseback, even! Not me, oh heck no.)

If you look up "extreme trail riding", "extreme horse trail riding", and "extreme mule trail riding" on YouTube you will find some competitive indoor courses and compilations of trail riding and so on, though not a fraction as many good trail riding videos as there are mtb videos, and I swear they're all shot on a potato. There are some big competitions in the Pacific Northwest for extreme trail riding, too. Mules are on another level entirely, the things they can do.

This trail looks so amazing… the galahs amongst the gulls before you even really set out, what a dream! I'm a birder, and I'd be so distracted by the birds (and other animals including the snakes) I'd never make it to the end. I'm not really afraid of snakes but I would be on a horse. At least where I live, the snakes give an audible warning they're around!
