Thank you for your nformative videos (Part 1 and 2). We are Australians and we will be beginning our retirement in Panama and of course visiting the other parts of Latin America.
Can you enlighten me on tipping in Costa Rica and Panama? What do we need to know as tipping is not common in Australia.
I think Costa Rica is more beautiful than Panama if you know where to go… but nothing against Panama though because they also have some wold class beaches and amazing islands… But they're right, if you want to see amazing beaches, pristine Rain cloud forest and great food in Costa Rica you need to go to exclusive and secluded parts of Costa Rica that are very expensive for the most part.. Travelers in a budget normally stay away from these areas.. If you're in a tight budget maybe skip Costa Rica since you're probably won't see the amazing side of Costa Rica that you're expecting see.
FYI When I say expensive I mean the equivalent of going to Miami Florida.. not crazy expensive either.
I am sorry, some of what is stated here is true enough, but some is unquestionably not accurate at all! For starters, saying that Panama's natural beauty tops Costa Rica is outright ridiculous!!! As in, this is utterly insane!!! I really like Panama, and could live there because of its affordability, but the diversity of natural beauty in Costa Rica blows Panama away.
Grocery stores in Costa Rica are definitely more expensive, but there are SIGNIFICANTLY more options to pick from in Costa Rica.
I speak fluent Spanish and can unequivocally state that Costa Ricans (Ticos) are a MUCH friendlier people than Panamanians. To even suggest otherwise is flat-out ignorant!
Ultimately, you get what you pay for when picking between Costa Rica. CR is definitely more expensive, but offers a more comfortable living and vacationing environment. However, if you are on a budget, are ok with a less festive and friendly culture, and don't prioritize diversity of things to do or natural beauty (including wildlife), Panama is great.
Thank you Qiang. I agree with you. After you visit other places, please come back to Panama. π
I had an abysmal experience of CR. Robbed, ripped off , no help whatsoever by local authorities, in your face locals, high prices for every thing. My wife nearly attacked by 2 youngsters.I ll never go back.
This was such a nice, calm and pleasant discussion! I really appreciate it. The two of you have a good chemistry and seem to be in synch. Nice to see the way you can bounce things off of one another. It feels like you're having a chat with me in my office and haven't found this on so many other channels out there! Hoping you might consider doing more of these in the future. Best to you both!
Enjoy your videos. I agree that transportation such as buses in CR needs lots of work. Had to laugh when I read your comments on bus service. Felt the same way. We stayed long enough that we purchased a vehicle so only used bus to go to Nicaragua to get passport stamped and return. We left CR about about 5 years ago. Traved it extensively and know it well. The best areas in my opinion are the small towns within an hour of the capital. Higher elevations with excellent climates. Ex Gretia, Atenas, Naranjo, Orotina, Puriscal.
Loved Costa Rica but not all areas such as anywhere that is coastal or tourist dependent. Didnt care for Gunacaste area as too hot and dessert looking or Monteverde or rain forest areas. Havent been to Panama but know some that have. Only downfall I have heard that it is not known for being overly friendly. But, really shouldnt say as never have been there. On the bucket list though. Keep up the nice videos.
I really have enjoyed watching your videos and I have learned a few things. Could I ask one question please? How do you locate your "frugal"monthly rentals before you arrive in whatever town you may be heading to? Thanks
But which country has a better climate ? Panama appears to be hotter and more humid and more rain. At least by comparing Wikipedia stats for PC and SJ
Playa Flamingo is white sand and is free! Pura vida!
Interesting comparison…thanks for sharing. If you had to settle in Panama, where would you choose to live?
You must visit again CR!
Hi you two, thanks for all the great info you are putting out here. When you were in Bocas Del Torro, what source/s did you use to find that $350 a month rental you had? I seem to be drawn to Bocas del Torro more than the rest of Panama. Thanks so much. Safe travels.
"flying fox" or "canopy" is called "zipline" in the USA
Great video. I've also been to both countries. I only visited Costa Rica for a month and had a great time in Guanacaste and Tamarindo. But I lived in Panama for six months, a long time ago during Noriega. I loved the weather, the food. I believe that Panama has a really great Pensionado program that gives retirees good discounts on living expenses. Your video helped clarify some things for me.
How about the beach comparison between Panama and the Philippine.
Thank you for taking the time to help us out.
you forget the US dollar currency in Panama
Another well done video. Love they way the 2 of you work together. Sounds funny to say but you guys are getting very professional at your job ππ½. Looking so forward to more (fresh) info on how Asia has changed since Covid.
What is now the cheapest country for example?
Hi i live in Panama and it seems to me a good joke that the people from Costa Rica buy alcohol in Panama. That's what we do also. And the cheap shops are on the costsrica sideπ but tax exempt.
Great comparison, great advice. We are looking for retirement distinction, so it should be Panama, thank you for a clear answer
Question: exchange rate…Costa Rica $20US gets 1000 colonels. Panama $20US gets 20 Panama . Also so nice to hear her voice in these videos. Thank you for learn english. Her voice adds a real international zing
Qiang & Dan. When it comes to tipping throughout the world is there a rule of thumb you use. I enjoy your videos very much. So much great information. All the best to you both. Thanks.
Very interesting. I learned a lot. Thank you
Yo apostaria por Costa Rica, es un paΓs con mayor organizaciΓ³n social y desarrollo humano y mejor organizado en terminos de gobernanza, con mayor estabilidad en gobernar con eficiencia.

Thank you. Panama sounds better but I still would like to see Costa Rica Panama looks like it has better beaches than Costa Rica.
I love Panama π΅π¦β€
I agree many things, but natural beauty panama has nothing to do against Costa Rica, sorry
Nice job! Both parts one and two are very well done and thoroughly informative. Thank you. Heading from near Seattle to Liberia in September for turtles and birds, Looking forward to Panama in a year or two. All the best to you both!
Really good discussion… I am a Panamanian leaving abroad and also had hard times comparing Panama and Costa Rica… I love both countries and yes Panama is cheaper. Regarding the National Packs there are about 14 National parks in panama there is a little book from ANAM "Panama national parks" it is a little guide in Spanish and English with a short description of each of these 14 parks pretty handy. https://ediciones-balboa.com/prod02.htm
I love your video I love your soul
I have lived in Costa Rica for 14 years, and am a permanent resident. I am considering relocating to Panama. Lower cost of living, lower inflation, better infrastructure, less bureaucracy, senior discounts and duty free imports.
