Yoshino Mountain is known as Japan’s best cherry blossom viewing spot, having been featured in numerous poems and songs for many years. Its beauty is truly deserving of its nickname, “Hana no Yoshino” or “Yoshino of Flowers”. During cherry blossom season, around 30,000 cherry trees bloom in full force, covering the mountainside with a sea of delicate pink and white blossoms. It’s no wonder that Yoshino Mountain is one of Japan’s most popular destinations for cherry blossom viewing, drawing crowds from all over the world.
Daigoji Temple is a world heritage site established in 874, and is known as a famous spot for cherry blossoms where Toyotomi Hideyoshi held the “Daigo no hanami” cherry blossom viewing party. Typically, the cherry blossoms are in full bloom from late March to early April. Inside the temple grounds, about 800 cherry blossom trees, including weeping cherry, Somei Yoshino, yamazakura, and yaezakura, bloom beautifully.
