Going out for okonomiyaki – a kind of Japanese pancake / pizza that you cook yourself at the table!
I had vegetarian okonomiyaki, with mochi race cake and cheese, and Phil had beef and spring onion. The batter’s made of flour and stock, as well as shredded cabbage and noodles.
Okonomiyaki’s one of my favourite types of Japanese food, but you don’t find it in many Japanese restuarants in the UK. Usually I make it myself at ohme, so it was a treat to have it in Tokyo!
This restaurant is on the top floor of MyLord department store in Shinjuku, Tokyo (what a great name for a department store!).
Sorry about the blurriness in some places – just got a new camera so the focussing will be less hit and miss on my newer videos!

That looked delicious, I particularly liked the egg timer, nice touch! Did they have an English version of the menu by any chance? Or at least enough pictures to get by if your Japanese is a bit iffy? Excellent videos by the way, please keep them coming! :o)
Love your hair style and Okonomiyaki!! My fovourite!
wow great video! im worried about how im gonna eat in Japan, since i am vegetarian also! Just wondering did a worker come to you and ask what ingredients you would like? or was there a vegetarian option?
i've always wanted to try okonomiyaki here in the ph. but next week perhaps we might go to a nearby okonomiyaki restaurant called Dohtonbori. i'm so excited! love your hair by the way!! new subbie here ^_^
Learning about okonomiyaki for the first time. This video was great. So many of them do not have narration so this was a great guide to Tokyo style.
After all that arduous exhausting cooking you still had to pay for that meal???…
That looks delicious! I'm stopping in Shinjuku so will have to look that place up. Is it easy to get around in Tokyo if you don't speak the language?
Maybe Osaka style is very different, but in Hiroshima style you're supposed to pour the second bowl onto the cooked surface of the cabbage and the flip all of that in a giant stack. I was surprised to see you eating them separately, still tastes great I guess. x
I thought it looked more like Pizza :')
Did you notice that you have a bit of a japanese accent when you speak english?
Is it possible to get it without eggs?
What is the name of the restaurant?
um,… this is basically Western food,… it tastes really good but it's not healthy,… hahaha! you're not stirring it correctly! (^_^) … https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Bn_vvp4Uj0Q
