Mt. Iwate towers above Morioka like the glorious volcano that it is. I love it and miss it when I’m far away.

  1. You've captured some stunning views up there (even the whiteout). How long does it take to walk to the top in winter and then when it is snow free?

  2. Congrats on No. "uno". Interesting how our brain is able to store the 3d map of an oft practised cross-country run or climb, isn't it? Otherwise moments like @2:16 would be concerning instead of ethereal and beautiful… ❄🙏❄

  3. Amazing. Makes me want to hike Iwate-san again, only been there once 2 years ago. Maybe I'll give you a call if I decide to head up to Morioka, haha.

  4. Thanks for taking us along on your adventure. I could feel the greater effort needed to summit alone. Stay safe (I’m confident you’re balancing the risks wisely!)

  5. Another awesome video man! I love all that beautiful scenery! I just got into hiking myself! Me and my pup travel out of our overland camper setup on my f350. You'll have to check my channel out! Keep up the awesome work!

  6. I think I am equally awed by your endurance and the sheer grandeur of the mountain in winter. So well done — many, many thanks!

  7. awesome channel! Just found it from searching "interview with a monk" cool stuff!

  8. Have you ever done an avalanche training? I always get scared when I see no other tracks ahead of me. But maybe avalanches aren't really as much of a risk factor around Iwate…

  9. That looked and sounded really difficult, but so beautiful! Both the snow with the blue sky and the juxtaposition between the white snow and the dark rocks and plants when it was overcast. Wonderful!

  10. Seeing the white-out, we had to keep reminding ourselves that because this video was uploaded you made it out ok. But when the skies were blue the views were wonderous!

  11. Would be interesting, with the proper gear, to spend a night in the cabin. As it is primarily for emergencies during winter, does it have any emergency supplies if you do have to take shelter there?

  12. aaah that seemed scary especially when the clouds came in. I'm glad you know your way around so well 🙂

  13. Wow, such beautiful scenery! Nice video to watch before bedtime; I have a nice warm cozy bed waiting for me. 🙂

  14. This really isn't a beginner's hike, I was wondering "why does he go there alone ?" during all the video and I'm glad you acknowledge it in the end. But as always it was worth it because the scenery is amazing and you got some pretty good shots on the way so thank you for sharing this with us.
The gods in Japan are quite well inspired when it comes to create beauty and reward the courageous enough (or crazy enough) to go hiking by -12° C. How do you even drink from this frozen bottle ?

  15. Now I have a name for my favorite color…Mt. Iwate Sky Blue. As always, thanks for taking us there Quinlan.

  16. Hi Quinlan! I found your channel in summer of 2020. I was going through such a rough time, but your videos just transported me to a different world. Here I am going through a rough time again, and immediately I went to your channel because the videos always calm me. Thank you for sharing nature and your passion 🙂

    できるなら、八幡平の樹氷を観に行きたかったんですが、もう、遅いですよね?
    時間確保して、開通まえに八幡平登ってみます。
    いわての自然の魅力発信ありがとうございま!

  18. Glorious! I heard myself saying 'wow' out loud several times watching this, the scenery is breath-taking. I have to say my heart was beating faster at the part where you needed to hold the rope! Thank you for taking us along with you to such a magnificent place.

  19. Hi Quinny, that looked like hard yakka! Do you ever worry about avalanches especially in wide steep areas?
