► As most of my regular viewers will know by now, every self-respecting Japanese city has at least one covered walking street nearby the station area.

Atami is no exception, only this one, instead of offering the regular ABC Mart (shoe shop) and Matsumoto Kiyoshi (Drugstore), it offers more traditional Japanese goods, such as
fishcakes, dried fish, “sembei” (Japanese ricecrackers with different flavors) green tea and mochi shops alongside a handful of restaurants dotted along the street.

It’s quite nice, offering a relaxing & friendly atmosphere – I’d choose this type of walking street over a “big box” of a noisy mall any day.

Here’s a look at Heiwa Dori, as life goes by on a normal weekday. – Enjoy!
