Today the second branch of Henn na Hotel (“strange hotel” in English) opened its doors in the Tokyo suburb of Urayasu. The first Henn na Hotel, launched in July 2015 in the theme park Huis Ten Bosch in Sasebo, Nagasaki Prefecture, has been recognized by Guinness World Records as “the first robot-staffed hotel” in the world. As in Nagasaki, the hotel’s front desk will be helmed by multilingual robots that speak Japanese, English, Chinese and Korean. The hotel offers keyless stays that use a facial recognition system, and the room’s temperature is controlled by motion sensors. The Urayasu hotel, which has 100 rooms, will use around 140 robots and feature seven human employees for emergencies. The fish that guests will see swimming in a lobby pool? Those are robots, too. According to management, the hotel is booked to 80% until the end of March. (Daisuke Kikuchi and Reuters photos) #hennnahotel #hotels #robots #japan #travel #instatravel #tokyo
