Niigata City’s Craft Beer no Jin craft beer festival is the largest craft beer festival in Japan. It turns 2 whole blocks of Niigata City’s Furumachi walking mall into the biggest street party anywhere. It takes place the last weekend of June every year and attracts brewers from all over Japan and from some locales beyond it.
Once the festival closes for the day, or if you’re in Niigata at another time of year, there’s no better place in the city to party than at the Kiwi Tavern, also known as The Local. The proprietor is a carpenter by trade and has converted the exterior and interior of the pub into something resembling a fantasy novel inn, with a darts range and tournament quality pool table. There’s always something going on or somebody to have a good time with at the Kiwi Tavern. The last Saturday of every month is the monthly appreciation party featuring live music, dancing and a free feast prepared by the Kiwi Tavern’s chef, and best of all, no cover! Found yourself in Niigata? Then I just might see you there.
The music was provided by Anders Hagman and Eric Shabel of Awful Lonely, now The Worst Case Scenario. Find news about them here:
