Reputedly the largest bronze sculpture in the world. I’m not sure but at 41m x 11m high he is certainly huge. The reclining pose represents Buddha about to enter Nirvana. The little figures in front Buddha are 500 of his disciples. It is a fabulous walk and there is a lot to discover. If you catch the train from Fukuoka to Kidananzoin-mae it is not far to the temple and on the way you will pass over Melody Bridge where you can stop and play a tune on the zylophone type keys placed along the bridge railing. This was definitely a great half day out and we even had lunch in the restaurant behind the souvenir shop and I recommend the ‘Without Meat” bento box, it is temple food and so delicious
