Wakayama Prefecture boasts the highest catch of fresh maguro in the country. Centering on the fishing port of Nachi-Katsuura, you can sample fresh maguro dishes there. The tuna is in season between January and March at the winter market, with the very best Bluefin tuna at their fattiest in February so that they are at their most delicious during that time.
