Maya and I take our 11th Daddy/Daughter Trip to Italy. The primary goal was to visit Miglierina, Italy – where my grandfather was born. But we also visit Rome, Pompeii, and Tropea along the way. Join us as we show and talk about our adventure!

  1. Interesting. But I guess Maya's red hair comes from another part of the family. Irish, British, nordic,…?

  2. What a wonderful video, with so much emotions in it. I really like the early picture with a very young Maya and a beardless Joshua, then we have the scenes where I feel that I am watching re-enactment of some of the scene of the movie “ Godfather” the souther Italien landscape with the houses and the churches or perhaps old black and white movie posters with the beautiful proud “Italian girl” read: Maya. And then it all turns into a very emotional feeling of joy and happiness when you both speaks of the joy of exploring you “roots” – that really gives me a warm feeling inside and made me chuckle. Thank you so very much for sharing this, with a complete stranger like my self. ❤😊

  3. 15:30 one of the many documentary about Pompeii its either a sign for a brothel or directions to it. Different times.

  4. I said it last video, when you guys vacationed in Ireland … I’m envious of you, Josh … for having such a special time with your kid. I love that for you guys. And envy it the same time.
This year you really got on an adventure. Locating your roots.
    Awesome!!

  5. Loved your video, mainly bc I adore Italy..
Naples is one of my favorite cities, but if you have the chance to return, go to Ercolano (it's better than Pompeji)
Puglia is my preferred area of Italy, for the food, the weather and as always, the people 💙
Loved the elderly lady who actually 'knew' your family..exciting 😉
Josh, your voice sounded so strained! 😵‍💫
    hello from Hundested 🌸 🌱

  6. Thx a lot for another great vid. I'm thanksfull to being invited in on the trip 🙂 a good thing with videos, and TV btw, is the ability to bring far away places closer, into your livingroom. If it is done well, u almost feel like you are there, and/or get a good impression of the place. At the same time u share a bit about your family "culture", both the present and the past. Its like the mozaik in Pompeii – your vids are like – "Wellcome" … to our experience, to a bit of our life 🙂 thx again for inviting us in.

  7. 26.000 subs 😎 Thank you for a another great video. I really enjoyed it. And so fantastic that you found people who knew your family. Amazing, and amazing to see how much it mens to you guys :). It inspires me to look up my own family routes. Have a great time, looking forward to more videos 🙂

  8. Gave a trip to my daughter (gift for the finish of high school). So the old man and her did a trip to Bulgaria, awesome time. Love the theme u got there, dad/daughter.

  9. Considering the fact that Maya is red-haired I'm going to venture a guess that your actual roots are in the nordics. Considering that both parents need to have the gene to produce a red-haired child and all. 🙂

  10. Hey guys, great video! Have you considered getting Italian Citizenship? Based on what you said about your grand father, you and Maya should be able to get it easily, which would help Maya on staying in Denmark as an EU Citizen without having to worry about any visa problem and so on…

  11. Oh man…
I hardly EVER had Daddy/Daughter time, since my adoptive father HATED me, and only TOLERATED me, until I was about 15! Just when I started binding with him, ALONG with my adoptive Mom, he screwed it all up, by being untrue, leaving us (we are 3 kids), AND leasing ALL the money works of a farm, INCLUDING land, buildings, machinery, etc, to our poor Mom, who got NOTHING out of it in court!

  12. As a dane, my family goes back to farmers a little outside my minor hometown round 1700. I never found out anything further back than that. So most likely I'm only a pure dane 🙄!

  13. I did visit Naples, with Pompei and more wealthy Herculanum (which I liked more!) + surroundings many years ago, and walked up mt. Vesuvius. And found greek temples better preserved than any in Greece!

  14. Thank you for making this video, I enjoyed seeing Miglierina and hearing your stories. My parents and Grandparents on both sides, were born and raised in Miglierina Torchia/Bruni. I live in Long Branch NJ .

  15. Most people who went to USA after WWII did so because of the circumstances in Europe in the years after the war. In Denmark where we have a good agricultural background, lots of people went because jobs were few and goods were scarce. Rationing was maintained well into the fifties.
And in Italy it must have been worse since they lost the war

  16. Two of my grandmothers uncles left Denmark for USA in the 1910s with nothing but the family name (the same name as our family farm), and our family never really knew what happened to them – until one day in the early 80s, when a couple of Americans showed up at the farm, where my grandparents still lived, looking for their grandfather’s Danish relatives. And our families have stayed in touch ever since. Other family members came to visit us, and some of my Danish relatives went over there to see them as well. For many years, I would act as a translator for my grandparents for the letters and Christmas cards they exchanged on a regular basis. It was fascinating trying to piece together the different fragments of family history. So I can totally relate to that feeling of reconnecting with a “lost” branch of the family.
