This video features a tour aboard the famous North Vancouver ferry turned restaurant known as the Seven Seas.
John Mackie wrote about the restaurant in June of 2002:
“It looks like the end of the line for the historic Seven Seas floating restaurant in North Vancouver, which barring a last-minute legal appeal will be towed away from the foot of Lonsdale in the next week and demolished. The city of North Vancouver is paying a company belonging to former BC Ferries president Tom Ward about $260,000 to move the ship, take it apart and salvage parts of it (including its wheelhouse, funnel and neon sign) for a maritime museum…”
The video features a short cameo by Diamond Almas at 2:23, the Seven Seas owner and son of the founder of the restaurant. The ship began its life as North Vancouver Ferry No. 5 in 1941; the North Vancouver ferry was discontinued in 1958.
John Mackie continues in his article:
“At its height in the 1970s, the Seven Seas employed 50 people, and could serve 350 patrons. Almas, 63, has lived in a suite in the stern of the boat for the past eight years. He seems resigned to the fact the Seven Seas restaurant is history, but wishes something could be done to save the boat. “She’s 61 years old,” he said. “But there’s still a lot of life left in the ferry. It’s sad to think they’re going to go to this extreme position to take her into a yard and destroy her. This is the last, there is no more. You know how it is with heritage, once it goes, it’s gone, and you can never re-create that.”

A rare time-traveling tour aboard the Seven Seas (Ferry No. 5).
Diamond Almas allowed us to use the Seven Seas on Sunday mornings to have our Sea to Sky Spiritual Centre meetings. His generous offer allowed us to have 'church' services for those teetering on comfortableness around going to 'church' or not. We were meeting there in 1997 and 1998 and are always appreciative of this opportunity.
I loved this place as a kid. My parents would bring me here for special occasions. I would load up on salad. My dad would call me stupid for eating cheap food and said I should go nuts on the seafood instead. Thanks for the memories.
