  1. What a bunch of revisionist nonsense. The mother narrative they were taught as history is ridiculous. Spanish was never discouraged among the natives. But at that time there was no such thing as universal public education around the world. Education was done through private tutors, religious clerics because the private schools were only for those who had the means. What was the point of the oldest university in Asia, Universidad de Santo Tomas if not for Filipinos. To say that Spanish colonization was dark history is another simplistic nonsense. The cities they lived in now were developed by Spaniards. That is a fact whether they admit or not. Filipino would not have come to be without the coming of the Spaniards. And no, there is no such thing as a Filipino language because the entire syntax and grammar is Tagalog. If anything Filipino is a dialect of Tagalog because it is the same language. I don't understand why the lie and simply admit that the national language as mandated by law is Tagalog. It is also completely wrong to say Filipino cooking is Chinese. Nope. There is influence certainly but majority of Filipino cooking do not come from the Chinese but from Austronesian cuisine influenced by Spain. Their nilaga is nothing more than caldo or cocido for instance. I don't understand why Filipino do not ever question the mother narrative of their "history." If any of them have the gumption it is easy to search out copies of the declaration of independence. It never said anything about Filipinas. It is written as La Republica Tagala 1898. Andres Bonifacio in his own declaration of independence wrote Republica ng Katagalugan. This is why the rays of the flag only reflect the tagalog province who revolted against Spain. Which by the way never surrendered to Gen. Aguinaldo nor did Spain ever gave up sovereign control of Las Islas Filipinas to any of the tagalog insurrectos. That too is a historical fact.
