A few years ago I was driving somewhere with a special friend of mine. The sun was setting and there was a canopy of clouds in the sky. Isn’t it just beautiful? The texture of the clouds, the shadows across the plains, the colours in the sky. She couldn’t help but appreciate everything that we were seeing even though we had driven the same route so many times before. Look at the view, the clouds, the snow, feel the sand on your toes, stop and smell those flowers, start a conversation with that random! focus on the small and beautiful things in life and you will start to feel and become a better person.
Recently I spent 6 months abroad in Japan. As it was my first overseas trip I couldn’t help but embrace everything that Japan had to offer. By the time I got back to Australia with my two besties I met in Hokkaido, we barely had enough savings to drive to our next seasonal job in Thredbo. (Yes, we spent a lot of our earnings on Sushi, Ramen and Beer) We had one whole month to burn in Adelaide before our season started. With not much money to spend and a lot of time on our hands, I was a little worried how I was going to show Sammi & Hayden my world, without them thinking it was the most boring place on the planet.
We spent our days chasing sunsets, letting our hair blow in the wind, finding secret waterholes and bonfires on the beach. My friend was right all along! You don’t need money to have a good time! Look around, appreciate what you have. You might just end up being a tourist in your own town.
