Otani pottery comes from the city of Naruto located in Tokushima Prefecture on the island of Shikoku. The style is known for its large size ceramics, such as body height tall jars and water lily pots. The “Nerokuro” (literally, lying wheel) method is used during the forming stage, featuring a unique kind of team work — one potter forms the clay, while the other lies on the floor kicks the pottery wheel to rotate it. ~
