Japan Van Life Ch 27 – Only in Japan 😅 It’s all fun and Squid Games 🦑

You might have heard of the Noto Peninsula sometime during the pandemic without even realising you’d heard of it. The reason for the infamy? A giant fiberglass squid. A 13m-long, 9m-wide, 4m-tall and 5t-heavy fiberglass squid that was paid for with ¥25,000,000 of the coastal town’s ¥800,000,000 emergency pandemic funding and ¥5,000,000 in taxes to be exact. And, well, the reasoning behind its existence apparently worked on us as we were pulled hook, line, and sinker into Noto’s new tourist attraction 🎣🦑.

On the last (of not quite 8) leg(s) of our 4 day 3 night tour of the Noto Peninsula, we’re enjoying an alternative squid game by visiting the giant “Squid King” statue and trying out some of Japan’s best squid ink dishes before making our way to our next Japan van tour location. And while the sourcing of the squid construction costs may be controversial, we did indeed have a kraken day out. Could the giant squid really become Japan’s next best tourist attraction?

  1. The fiberglass squid (based on the dimensions you provided) is pretty close to actual Giant Squid size (per Internet). I don't think I'd want to meet a real one underwater.

  2. Safety issues aside, I am kind of sad we didn't get to see any of that island up close. It looks really beautiful floating out there in the middle of the beach

  3. Australia has many Big things and it draws in the tourists so Japan should have some Big things as well. Looking forward to your next location.

  6. I like the play on words in the title (cracking turned into kraken 🙂). Some reference to the sleeper hit Squid game might also have been apt

  7. イカキングは5トンで3千万、100㌘あたり600円なので高級な和牛とかに比べたら安い‼️
    しかも観光に一役買っているので良いのでは😊

  8. I absolutely love this channel. You two are awesome and the love between you both radiates through your videos. Keep up the epic work 😊🙏

  9. What is the best months in the year for travel in Japan. I suppose now it's getting colder but also in other times there are typhoon season and high humidity seasons?

  10. Hi guys, what quadcopter are you using from 20:08 to 20:47? Your mum and I (and Alex too, who used to fly a drone) really like these shots – they put a nice perspective onto the vlog. I don't know what the restrictions are re- flying drones over there – they are quite strict in UK though not many people realise – but without going mad, we feel more would really enhance the videos. Anyway, keep it up – we look forward to our evening meals accompanied by your travelogs, and please come to visit as soon as you can. 1, 2, Ja-ne!
