FIRST 2 WEEKS IN JAPAN | LIFE IN JAPAN ON THE JET PROGRAM | SOUTH AFRICAN LIVING ABROAD IN ASIA

I arrived in Japan almost 3 weeks ago and spent almost the whole of the first week in quarantine in Tokyo on the JET program. For the past week I have been familiarizing myself with my town, Mikuni in Fukui prefecture and getting to meet a few people.

Unlike the major cities, one needs a car to get around however, being the fitness enthusiast that I am I walk most of the time. Deciding to walk 10km to get to Tojinbo cliffs was no issue (though I would not recommend you do this wearing a trench coat).

The Tojinbo cliffs are one of the main attractions in Mikuni amongst other things.

I got to meet other South Africans on the JET program and they took me around showing me most key points. Spent the afternoon drinking from their well of knowledge about the JET programme, being a South African living abroad (in Japan), being an English Teacher’s assistant etc.

Sake is an alcoholic drink famous in Japan and other Asian countries and I did not miss the opportunity to go on a sake tasting in Japan.
