On this week’s show, Disneyland veterans, David and Ronn dive into several sizzling Disney topics. Exploring The NEW (Temporary?) Magic Key Pass Program! Is it better or worse? What did they change? Why did they change it? Is this the MKP program that is here to stay? Just kidding, when are they changing it again?
“We read demand. We have no plans right now in terms of what we’re going to do, but we operate with a surgical knife here, It’s all up to the consumer. If consumer demand keeps up, we’ll act accordingly. If we see a softening, which we don’t think we’re going to see, then we can act accordingly as well.” – CEO Bob Chapek
Does the question now become how drastic are the changes still to come? Something unprecedented? Will the future state of annual passes be unrecognizable – or even exist at all?
Do we think Disney will ever put Batuu in a future Star Wars film? Do we think a Tarzan’s Treehouse announcement could be big enough for D23? DCA lacks a great dark ride that cycles thru many guests like Pirates of the Caribbean and the Haunted Mansion. What dark ride would we like to see at DCA?
Plus, we plunge into the Disney zeitgeist and explore this week’s most popular and headline-grabbing Disney chatter including “attendance mix”, D23 Legends announced, Disney+ Day, the Big Thunder Mountain movie announcement, Batuu Bounty Hunters, and Disneyland Magic Bands. All this and the big reveal of our Top 5 Favorite Quotes from a Ride, and more!

Report this week was they only sold 3.6k Dream keys. I find that hard to beleive. But if true, thats WILD to me.
Well I decided to renew at a lower pass, Enchant, and use the money I am saving on buying more food and Genie+ only when needed. I am 2 hours away and can't get there often. Inspire would be a no brainer for me if I lived closer. I don't mind Genie+ al a cart because a Wed in February will not be the same as a Friday in July and I can choose when to pay for it. Would I complain if it was added to the pass, of course not-it used to be free. But I would not pay a set $300 for it up front.
Ron's is still livin' in the 80's if he thinks Taco Bell's tacos are still .39c haha. I'm sure he means the current value to produce them though. He's a business-minded thinker.
Disney stock got to over $123 per share last week. This week it’s down to around $116. Not a big concern, but I wonder if the rise and fall had anything to do with renewals.
I think a lot of us with the two lower tiers spend a LOT per visit, and we are more likely to buy special and limited edition items than people with a one time three day ticket. I know we thought we'd save a lot of money with passes, coming from out of state, and while we have saved on admission and hotels (bro works for a chain), we have spent an embarrassing amount on stuff and food. 😂
This just informs the viewing audience that you two would be worse than Bob with the ticket and pass gouging if you had your way as business/revenue minded tubers. Just a cautionary tale of how far the rabbit hole you are against the average consumer.
funny how they forgot that Monsters Inc is a dark ride at DCA.
That 'surgical precision' comment is a hyperbole for stockholders imo.
quotes "there's no turning back now", "hurry back", "please don't throw me into the briar patch", "there's nothing in here but bees", "hang onto those hats in glasses", "remain seated, permancecer sendtados, por favor", "end of the lion", "backside of water", "nice driving pal", "wildest ride in the wilderness", "dead men tell no tales", "we forgot to wake up the glee club",.
APs are a great deal for CA locals. I wish I still lived in Santa Barbara! But the entire conversation is moot to me, in NM. 😝
Serious question, who goes to the parks and is NOT already a Disney+ subscriber? I feel like if you’re enough of a fan to spend the money it costs to go to the parks you probably already subscribe. The number of people who are not has got to minuscule.
Great podcast as always you guys!!! Thank you and I hope you both have a great rest of you week!!!
After watching, I am really wishing I lived in So-Cal near Disneyland❣ I had never calculated how much you were actually paying per day if you were going to Disneyland >=50 times/year. So, the Inspire key is approximately $1600.00. If you break that up over 50 visits ($1600.00/50 = $32.00) it's approximately $32.00/visit. Considering the Inspire key gets free parking valued at approximately $30.00 per day ($32.00 – $30.00 = $2.00) you are at $2.00 dollars per visit. If you get photos each visit, Photo Pass (valued at $19.99/day) is soon to be free with each pass, so you are essentially paying -$17.99 per visit. The value is definitely there if you are able to go to the park this amount of times. (Interesting to note if you go 25 times per year the price per day is $14.01 per day with the Inspire key using the same logic.)
This is not including any extras purchased. I did not include those because you save more money, but it also adds to the cost per day. For example, you save $4.00 on the Genie+ but you add $16.00 to the price per day, $2.00/day (cost of visit) + $20.00 (Genie+/day) – $4.00 (%20% off Genie+ per day) = $18.00 per day). The same would be true for food, merchandise, and the like because you get a nice discount but you are also adding to the cost per day. If these are things you would normally get, again the value is definitely there.
I agree with Ron, not going to waste Encanto IP on treehouse. I think it's just a reskin for Chip n Dale since they were evicted from Toontown!
What is "Buh-Bye"?!
Jungle Cruise is an amazing movie – give it another try. I like it better and better each time I see it. They are comedic geniuses with their timing and rapport with each other.
"Your attention please…" 🚂 Always so lovely to hear. Great podcast, David and Ronn! 😊
Good show. I think more Magic Keys will come later in 2023. For Disney Legends, this award is a bit ridiculous. Chadwick Boseman isn't a Disney legend.
1. New idea… New "Muppets" Movie IP giving a tour of TL via the People Mover! 2. Tree House with a mix to swamp and POTC! 3. Zootopia Tree house or People Mover!
Vocal sound is low compared to intro: yikes
Hi guys, please improve the sound output of your podcasts? we watched this one & had to have the tv volume on 87 just to hear you both, whereas the ads blasts us during your broadcast….(maybe sit closer to your mics?) thx so much for all you contribute!
Thanks for commenting on my sweet hubby CM: GLEN working in M&F’s toll booth#1 when you passed thru recently! he was so excited to meet you!
I agree that I want them to do something original, but Beauty and the Beast is my favorite Disney movie. So if they could just copy and paste the Beauty and the Beast ride from Tokyo and drop it in a new fantasyland I would love it.
Absolutely love the shoe. Never stop!
Like I said before, I won't be renewing my Dream Key into an Inspire Key. The two reasons are (1) the reservation system was so involved that I felt robbed of the experience of showing up at Disneyland anytime you want like everyone who had an annual pass told me about, and (2) my friends couldn't afford to buy Disneyland tickets, understandably, and I found I enjoy going to Disneyland by myself much less than I expected. My last day at Disneyland on my Dream Key will be 28 Aug 2022, and I will be wearing my "Unfavorable Attendance Mix" t-shirt.
Please boost the audio!!! Thanks!!
Geez, I love you guys! What a great show!
That would be a great top 5. You know you're at Disneyland when….
Hey guys great work as usual. Dave, as much as you go for work IT IS a tax deduction don't you? Regardless it makes sense for you.
I am wondering if part of it is simply economics, people are hurting with inflation and gas prices the way they are cuts need to be made in peoples budgets. Perhaps you are right Dave, people are getting their last licks in before losing their passes.
Anyway thanks again..Aloha to Liz and Sophie.
The Matterhorn was already based on movie… Third Man on the Mountain. Another Disney IP.
All those names don't remind me of Disney. When you're put in Disney hall of fame it's names like; James MacArthur, Kevin Corcoran, Tommy Kirk, Dean Jones, Fred McMurray, Annette Funicello Kirt Russell. These are names that I symbolize with Disney.
I think Disney is going too far with their Apps. They want use your phone for food orders, rides, purchases, photos, wait times, tickets. I just want to go in and wonder the park. Eat when we are hungry not schedule a time. Also all these extra charges like Genie+ and lightning lane are going overboard.
I don’t know if it still exists but Disney world had a store full of greys anatomy merch and they had stuff from the show on display
Hey guys! So on the subject of magic bands and using them for payment it the park, how it works at wdw is you have to be staying at a Disney hotel and have a cc linked to it. As far as a dark ride I think Bedknobs and Broomsticks would make for a great dark ride. Love the podcast and look forward to it every week. Keep up the great work!
Ronn's hair doesn't get enough love *chef's kiss*
Who is gonna tell Ron that a taco at Taco Bell isn’t .39 cents
Correct about the Thrawn novel. Vader and Anakin both appear on Batu in Alliances.
I don’t get the hype around Disney+ day.. I was at the first one last year at WDW, and all it was, was a normal day where they handed you a button on the way in.. lol
Disney+ day was not very well advertised last year. We were there on that day and I didn't know about it until we showed up and saw the blue carpet. And I follow Disney news pretty closely.
I agree that the Jungle Cruise movie was not very good.
Favorite quote in a ride is the Peter Pan start "c'mon everybody, here we gooooo." But only while waiting in line. Each time you hear that, you are one boat closer to being on the ride.
I don’t even like the Haunted Mansion as much as most people but the line that gives me the feels every time has to be: “The Happy Haunts have received your Sympathetic Vibrations and are BEGINNING to MATERIALIZE!” It’s just classic!
Honorable Mention: “Down, down, down!”
All key levels are already getting retroactive 25% off Genie Plus
Would love to get some financial investing tips from both of you I know you are not financial advisors but it’s interesting to hear about Ronnie talk about his Disney stock etc.😄
Favorite ride quotes: “We’re maaaaking looooots of money” from Pinocchio and “Here kitty, kitty, kitty” from Pirates.
My top five,
1. Your attention please…
2. Is this haunted room actually stretching?
3. Here we goooo!
4. This here’s the wildest ride in the wilderness!
5. We wants the redhead!
Honorable mention, Matterhorn safety spiel in Spanish.
Thank you for such a great podcast! I live in Canada and can only come to the parks once every few years so it was really nice to hear you guys talk about how inspire key holders only have to go to the park 7/8 times in the whole year for their pass to be worth while. There has been so much focus on how expensive the keys are, which I totally agree they are, but if you compare it to what a ticket holder has to pay like myself, it’s actually not that bad of a deal.
Also, please please please could Ronn and you do a video showcasing what his rope drop strategy is, including genie plus. This is such valuable info for people like myself who want to maximize my time at the park.
Thanks again for all you do! 😁
Yes!! Saturday's for us also. We work and there wasn't a choice. Worth it for 6 or 7 times!!!
I'm with you Ron!! They kind of force you to use genie plus. We have been using it a lot, or you have to wait forever for every ride. Too hard for little kids to wait for every ride. There is a learning curve. My daughter is better at maximizing it.
Didn’t know these were in a different fresh baked glad I found ya again
