Historic Wendover Utah/Nevada – Airfield Museum
The desert oasis of Wendover may be best known today for land speed records attempted on the nearby Bonneville Salt Flats, but this state-straddling community first used this world-renowned, otherworldly landscape as a top-secret military training site during World War II. This remote desert landscape was a specialized training base for B-17 and B-24 bomber crews, including the 509th Composite Group and B-29 Enola Gay unit who carried the atomic bombs dropped over Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Today, military history lovers will discover a nearly complete historic Wendover Air Force Base-turned-Historic Wendover Airfield Museum Plus the victory highway – Lincoln Highway and more

  1. You should go to the Burning Man Festival, you are not all that far away from the Black Rock Desert in Northwestern Nevada.

  2. Thank you so much for this video. I have a friend whose father was a integral part of the Manhattan Project. I will definitely tell her about this video.

  3. In June when my Son's family and I stopped by there is was not open. That museum is fantastic. My Son is a Veteran he just retired a few yrs back and my Dad is a Veteran from World War 2. I wished it was open when we stopped. Thank you for taking me along.

  4. Thanks for the historic tour. I enjoyed seeing the items that I could only see after I was born by touring with u. Heard a lot about this place & read and saw the pictures in history class. Nice to know it was preserved.

  5. West Wendover is the only Nevada town on Mountain Time. The rest of the state is on Pacific Time. All of Nevada used to be on Mountain Time back in the day.

  6. Russ.
    Both Wendovers
Are in the Mountain Time Zone.
    Only after you leave West Wendover ( Exit 407 – I 80 ).
    And.
    Heading south on 93.
    Away from town.
    Does your time change.
    Into the Pacific Time Zone.
    This eliminates the confusion.
    Between the 2 states.
It was an Act of Congress.
    Back in the '80s.
    That moved West Wendover,
    Nevada.
    Into the Mountain Time Zone.
    For obvious reasons.
    Hope this helps you.

  7. I found this video very informative. You always go places i would love to go to. a quick note… next time your up in So Dakota, the Rapid City side, can you stop into the Ellsworth AFB Air and Space Museum. it's worth the trip. i was stationed there for 4 years, 67 to 71. i know you will find it very interesting. Next time? i know you go to So Dakota each year for the Black Hills and the Sturgis Rally. take in the Ellsworth AFB Air and Space Museum. We had B-52's there and Minute Man Missiles, and KC 135 Tanker Planes. I was in SAC at the time… one of the very last of it's kind. Thanks..

  10. I am 78 yrs. young I have 2 of the old wool blankets which were issued to me back in the day. They still look brand new. spent a lot of nights under them .

  11. Most likely they parked the bombers on the field and worked on the bombers inside the hanger so the metal wouldn't be so hot.

  12. I have one of those old wool army blankets my uncle bought back with him after serving during WW2. It is scratchy but, boy, does it keep you warm. I have on my bed every winter.
