Our fourth trip to Japan started off with 2 firsts for us; flying into Haneda airport, and flying the long haul segment with ANA.
While fighting the effects of our first day jet lag we navigated the Tokyo metro to Tokyo station where we picked up our JR Rail Pass. Thanks to a helpful JR employee were also booked all our train tickets for 3 weeks of train travel seeing us all the way up North to Sapporo, back down South to Osaka and ending up in Tokyo.

Really great video, very helpful. I'm heading to Japan for the second time in November/December and I'll also be going to Sapporo via the bullet train. The JR Pass is fantastic.
Can you use JR Rail Pass on local trains and busses? I was thinking of going around in Tokyo for a week or so before going to Osaka.

Hi, that is such a useful video! I am going to japan in the end of this week. Landing in narita terminal 2. I have got some questions. Really appreciate if you could help me by answering them.
I have bought a JR pass voucher. I am going with my friends (3 persons), i am wondering whether each of us needs to exchange it ourselves or it can be only me bringing the passport and JR voucher of me and my friends to the exchange counter? Second question is, is the counter for JR pass exchange the same with seat reservation counter? Or it is in another counter? Third question (and the last!) So I have listed the trains i am going to ride in the next 7 days. Can i reserve 4 seats each train (for me and my other 3 friends) in the same time? again so my friends don’t need to come to the counter. Thank you very much! 🙂

I can’t tell you how grateful i am for having watched this, when i watched it.
We are headed to Japan in late December, less than two weeks away. I had no idea about the 3 month validity of the JR passes and so i check them.
Sure enough, they would have expired by the time we arrived. Thankfully our agent will reissue without any further fees. Phew!

What happens if you have a reserved seat ticket and then you miss the train? Is it ok and am I allowed to get new tickets?
I will be in japan for 11 days. I will arrive in Tokyo then head to Kyoto and Osaka for 6 days using the jr national pass and returning to Tokyo. Will I need the jr pass in Tokyo or just a pasmo or suica card? I only ask because the jr pass comes in 7 or 14 days pass. Thank you

I have a question: I will be staying in Japan for a month, so if I purchase the 21 day JR Pass, it can be used only for those 21 days in consecutive order, or can I, for example, use like 5 days of the JR rail pass per week? Does it apply to the special flexible five day JR pass?
