Japan Trip: Views from the Mountain with Virtual Sports in the Museum at the Okurayama Ski Jump Stadium, Hokkaido28 Moopon
Okurayama Ski Jump Stadium (大倉山ジャンプ競技場) in Sapporo, Hokkaido is the home of the 1972 Winter Olympics 90 meter ski jump competition. Though still used as competition site for the World Cup or other ski jump event, when there isn’t an event, visitors are allowed to use the chair lift to escalate the mountain to the Okurayama Observatory. Here, visitors will experience spectacular views of Sapporo.

Hours: 8:30 to 18:00 (from May to October)
9:00 to 17:00 (from November to April)
From June to September, opened until 21:00 on Fridays and Saturdays
Closed: April 1st to 15th
Admission: 500 yen for roundtrip chairlift ticket
Visitors will find the Sapporo Winter Sports Museum at the foot of the jump hill. The museum contains displays relating to the 1972 Sapporo Winter Olympics. In addition, winter sports, including ski jump, bobsled and the biathlon’s exhibits are featured here. Sports enthusiasts may enjoy the fun sport simulation games. Visitors can experience winter sports such as ski jump, speed skating and hockey. The simulations are free of charge.

By Bus (limited time):
From late April to early November, board the JR Burari Sapporo Kanko Bus between JR Sapporo Station and the Okurayama Ski Jump Stadium. The one-way journey is about 45 minutes with a cost of 210 yen. There is one bus every hour.
Note: The bus is free of charge for Japan Rail Pass holders.
By Bus (all year round):
Board bus line 14 from Tozai Subway Line’s Maruyama Station. Disembark at Okurayama Kyogijo Iriguchi bus stop. The one-way journey is 10 minutes with a cost of 210 yen. There are 2 buses per hour.
From the bus stop, the Okurayama Ski Jump Stadium is a 10 minute walk.
