This time I plan to walk from the Nakasu area of Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Prefecture, considered Kyushu’s largest downtown area, through Tenjin to Fukuoka Castle.
Fukuoka City is the largest city in Kyushu and the capital of Fukuoka Prefecture, located in western Fukuoka Prefecture.
This area facing Hakata Bay has been called Hakata since ancient times and has been used as a gateway to the continent.
In the Middle Ages, a self-governing city was formed by merchants, and despite being frequently burned to the ground in wars, it nurtured a rich merchant culture.
After the reconstruction of the city by Hideyoshi Toyotomi in the Warring States period, the Kuroda clan built Fukuoka Castle and its castle town, and the city was divided into two parts by the Naka River: “Fukuoka” as a castle town in the west and “Hakata” as a merchant town and commercial city from the Middle Ages in the east. The name “Fukuoka” has been used since the Meiji Era.

今回は、九州最大の歓楽街と言われる福岡県福岡市にある中洲エリアから天神を抜け福岡城まで歩く予定です。
福岡市は、福岡県西部に位置する九州最大の都市であり、福岡県の県庁所在地です。
博多湾に面するこの地域は古来から博多と呼ばれ、大陸方面への玄関口として利用されてきました。
中世に商人による自治都市が形成され、戦乱で度々焼き払われながらも、豊かな町人文化を育みました。
戦国時代に豊臣秀吉の手で復興されたのち、黒田氏が福岡城とその城下町を築いたことで、那珂川を境に西が城下町としての「福岡」、東が中世からの商人町・商業都市としての「博多」と分けられる様になりましたが、明治以降に一つの都市へと統合され「福岡」の呼び名が現在では定着しています。
福岡市の都心は、天神と博多の２つがありますが、今回は主に天神周辺を歩く予定です。
天神エリアは、多数の百貨店やファッションビルが集積する九州最大の繁華街となっています。
