Akihabara (秋葉原), also called Akiba after a former local shrine, is a district in central Tokyo that is famous for its many electronics shops. In more recent years, Akihabara has gained recognition as the center of Japan’s otaku (diehard fan) culture, and many shops and establishments devoted to anime and manga are now dispersed among the electronic stores in the district. On Sundays, Chuo Dori, the main street through the district, is closed to car traffic from 13:00 to 18:00 (until 17:00 from October through March).

Akihabara has been undergoing major redevelopment over the years, including the renovation and expansion of Akihabara Station and the construction of new buildings in its proximity. Among these newly opened buildings were a huge Yodobashi electronics store and the Akihabara Crossfield, a business complex with the aim of promoting Akihabara as a center for global electronics technology and trade.
Akihabara (Japanese: 秋葉原) is a common name for the area around Akihabara Station in the Chiyoda ward of Tokyo, Japan. Administratively, the area called Akihabara mainly belongs to the Sotokanda (外神田) and Kanda-Sakumachō districts in Chiyoda. There exists an administrative district called Akihabara in the Taitō ward further north of Akihabara Station, but it is not the place people generally refer to as Akihabara.

The name Akihabara is a shortening of Akibagahara (秋葉ヶ原), which ultimately comes from Akiba (秋葉), named after a fire-controlling deity of a firefighting shrine built after the area was destroyed by a fire in 1869.[1]

Akihabara gained the nickname Akihabara Electric Town (秋葉原電気街, Akihabara Denki Gai) shortly after World War II for being a major shopping center for household electronic goods and the post-war black market.[2][3]

Akihabara is considered by many to be the centre of modern Japanese popular culture and a major shopping district for video games, anime, manga, electronics and computer-related goods. Icons from popular anime and manga are displayed prominently on the shops in the area, and numerous maid cafés and some arcades are found throughout the district

  1. I really love how those buildings are covered with all those different colors of letters and posters. And that store is so big, so much stuff I would buy there haha😆

  2. Each of yours videos takes me on a wonderful journey ! It's very nice to be able to get away for awhile thanks to you.
    どうもありがとうございます !
    Merci ! 😁

  3. 6:13 is so sketchy how the maid in the balcony alerts the maid in the ground where he is going. She leans towards the direction he is taking. 👀

    Edit:
Holy shit, there's another girl reporting something over the radio at 7:03

Are they part of some shady business or something? 🤔 Why do they act like this?

  4. こういう動画って不思議だよね。特に興味がある訳でもないのに、気がついたらずーっと見てしまっている。

  5. Happy New Year from Canada! Excellent video…I like the way you actually pause for a moment to look inside the stores, arcades, etc.. Similar channels often just walk on by. Also the tour of Yodobashi Camera was incredible!! 😊👍

  6. whether I live in China or Korea, my heart always belongs to JAPAN! Come to see my vlogging about SHANGHAI

  7. Akihabara is changing constantly and continues to do so. With the closure of the Sega Building I have a strong feeling the Anime and Video Games era of Akihabara is coming to end and rumor has it in the next 10 years Akihabara will turn into a Mecca of Kpop and Kdrama. I actually heard about plans from the city itself to change the visual aesthetic from Anime to Kpop as anime Akihabara becomes less popular 🙂
