Amazing to see olive trees in Japan! I’m part of a small town in central California and for about a 20 mile radius is surrounded with olive trees. Someone correct me if I’m wrong but I believe it’s only place in the US where olive trees grow.

I'm Japanese, I love Mediterranean cuisine and olives. I use olive oil for cooking. I was shocked when I got a box of sugared olives. Couldn't eat…sweet olives 😳

Olives in the Mediterranean region are always the best and especially the famous black Kalamata olives from Greece. Seems the people on Shodoshima Island are living long lives partaking the Mediterranean Diet
If you are into classic Japanese films, do yourself a favor and track down 24 eyes (二十四の瞳) starring Takamine Hideko and directed by Kinoshita Keisuke in 1954. The story is set on a very sleepy and quiet Shodo Island before the start of WW2. It's full of joy and discovery and ultimately sadness in the most anti-war way ever.
Olive oil is healthy. I almost made it there last time but had to change plans due to weather. I hope to go the next time.
