Today I spent my time walking around Chofu, a famous town in Shimonoseki locally known as Samurai Machi (Samurai Town). There are many temples in Chofu as well as a pretty big cemetery to the rich and powerful of that area.

This video was filmed with a Panasonic GH2 with the Lumix 44mm – 140mm HD lens in automatic focus, manual lighting mode. The original video was recorded at the cameras highest bit rate and looks much better than the re-encoded video here on YouTube.

  1. Looks lush there. Better than miserable Blighty atm. Nice camera work and editing too. Could almost pass as some NHK world segment. 😉

  2. it's beautiful there. I'm jealous though. You got cherry blossoms+sunshine and we have rain mixed with snow+freezing temperatures. something is really really wrong with spring this year. 🙁

  3. I actually long for some good snow. I haven't seen real snow in over 4 years now. We just get any in this part of Japan. You are right though, it is a beautiful place to be. I really enjoyed that day of filming. Relaxing in the good weather, no worries about work or family. Very relaxing.

  4. It was really nice seeing the 'emas' hanging in the temples. My Japanese teacher first told me about them and I think the idea behind them is really quaint.I know it may seem stupid in this cynical day and age to write a wish on a piece of wood or paper in the hope it'll come true, but somehow I still think its a nice custom. The cemetery reminded me of a scene from the Japanese drama film 'Still Walking',which I watched last year.

It was a very enjoyable video

  5. I'm happy that you enjoyed the video. I like going to places like this. It makes the world seem normal just for a while 🙂
