We visited two sites of Aso UNESCO Global Geopark in Kumamoto: Mount Aso’s majestic landscape viewpoint, Kusa-Senrigahama Grassland, and one of the top freshwater springs of Japan, Shirakawa Fountainhead.

We had a pleasant walk through an area that belongs to the world’s largest active volcanic crater. A force of nature formed it through huge eruptions between 90,000 and 270,000 years ago. In the southern part of the Aso caldera, we wrapped up our day at a fresh spring to enjoy drinking its tasty water and snacking on traditional Japanese sweets.
