May 22/2022 Spring Hike
Today we are in Canmore, Alberta. We will be hiking up the Three Sisters Creek Trail to see a couple waterfalls. The trail is 5.2 kilometers out and back with an elevation gain of 274 meters.
The trailhead is located in Canmore, Alberta. The trail is well defined and starts out walking through the trees for the first kilometer, with minimal elevation gain. We then veered off the main trail to the right towards the creek. At 1.4k you will reach a bridge, cross the bridge and turn left to continue up the trail. At 1.6k you will reach the first little waterfall. We continued up the trail to the left of the creek and then zig zagged up the creek crossing it 3 or 4 times. These crossings were very easy. At 2.1k you will reach the second waterfall. This one was quite a bit bigger than the first one. Everyone else stopped here at this waterfall. We continued hiking up the trail on the left side of the waterfall. This part of the trail was very steep and required a little bit of scrambling. From here we had a great view looking down at the waterfall. We worked our way down to the creek, and then walked to the top of the waterfall. After a brief break, we continued walking up the creek. We came across a beautiful mossy section with a little creek running into the main creek. At 3k we decided to turn around and head back.
This was a very short and easy hike up to the second waterfall. There were quite a few people on the trail. This is a great little hike for families, and people of all ages.
