Nothing beats a tasty bowl of ramen on a steamy and muggy Tokyo evening. The noodles, cooked al dente, the broth ladened and ladled with secret (inevitably oily) sauces, can be thick, thin, heavy, light, spicy or bland – the choices are yours, and are all part of the fun of ramening.
It is a hats-off-to-the-chef type of gesture to raise your bowl and finish the broth if a bowl is particularly enjoyed. My quest in this Empty Bowl Ramen Tour was to seek out and find as many bowls worthy of emptying as possible – in a city with more than 5000 ramen restaurants, finding enough shops to taste test for a month was not a problem….and then I went to Osaka!
Many thanks to all the participating ramen shops and welcoming staff…most every bowl was emptied!
