One of the typical foods of Toyama is kamaboko, a fish paste made from surimi that is very common in the Japanese cuisine.

Umekama not only produces Toyama’s signature kamaboko, but also what is called “craftsman kamaboko”. The fish paste is made into shapes that symbolize good fortune and well-being like the sea bream, crane, tortoise and Mt. Fuji and shared in occasions such as births or weddings. This tradition is unique to Toyama.
