Japan’s national broadcaster NHK explores the rental bike market in Tokyo in the lead up to the 2020 Olympic Games.

The so called community bicycle concept is now main stream now encompassing six wards in Tokyo. You can pick up and drop off at over 200 locations.
You must register via phone app to become part of the scheme. The bikes also have batteries to combat some of the steep hills in Tokyo, which there’s not that many.
