In Tohoku region, Hirosaki castle is the only remaining castle tower which was built in the Edo period. It is the symbol of the city Hirosaki.
Now Hirosaki castle is moved. As the east side of the castle becomes weak, so it needs to repair. Due to the construction the castle tower tensu has to move 70 meters without taking the building apart.
The repair of the base structure itself will take 10 yrs. It will be finished by 2026. So now grab the opportunity to see this rare thing of Japan — the moving castle.
So Hirosaki Castle is called moving castle of Aiomori, Japan.
The Hirosaki castle was built in 1611 by the Tsugaru clan.
The castle keep was originally a five storey tower. But in 1627 due to the lightening the Hirosaki castle tower was burned down. This current structure was rebuilt in 1810 as 3 storey tower.
So now Hirosaki castle is a 3 storey building with 3 roofs and the height of the tower is 14.4 meters.
All these structures, including the tensu are national important cultural properties. In 2006 the hirosaki castle was declared as one the “100 finest castles of Japan” by the Japan castle foundation.
The castle is surrounded by a beautiful park.
*Hirosaki park has an area roughly about 49 hectares and you can see the moats, gates, turrets and 2600 cherry trees.
*This Hirosaki park is one of the Japan’s most famous cherry blossom spots. You can see Skaura trees are planted long the both sides of the walking path.
As the renovation is going on so you will get the rare chance to see how Japanese castles are built.
