Bunna 9 (1623) The Akizuki clan was established by the death of Nagamasa Kuroda.
文和9年(1623年)黒田長政の遺命により秋月藩が成立。
The following year, the first year of Kanei (1624), the feudal lord Kuroda Nagaoki entered Akizuki and maintained Akizuki Castle.
翌寛永元年（1624年）藩主黒田長興が秋月に入り、秋月城を整備。
Since then, it has been the residence of successive feudal lords. It is a small Jinya-style castle, and at the end of the slope called Tilezaka, at Ote-mon, there was a black gate, which is now the main gate of Taruyu Shrine. At the back gate, the nagayamon remains the only one that can be built at its current location.
以来、歴代藩主の居城であった。陣屋形式の小さな城で、瓦坂と呼ばれる坂の先、大手門には、現在垂裕神社の神門となっている黒門が建っていた。裏門には長屋門が唯一、現位置に建つものとして残っている。
Currently, the site of Akizuki Castle is Asakura City Akizuki Junior High School, and the appearance of the active wooden school building where students attend is a symbol of the castle town Akizuki.
現在、秋月城跡は朝倉市立秋月中学校となっており、生徒が通う現役の木造校舎の佇まいは城下町秋月のシンボルとなっている。
